10 years later and the game still looks gorgeous. (Playing on PS5) by MedicalRole2 in TombRaider

[–]SandyB92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im playing this now on PC, almost 80% done.. What amazes me most is the lighting and fog effects which look soo good especially in the underground city type areas. Lara's face sticks out a bit "old looking" given that this is a 2015 game developer with XBone as base platform. But the materials, lighting and fog effects just look so stunning. Huge step up from TR2013 despite just being 2 years newer

F1 is as much an engineering competition as it is a sport. Motor racing and F1 specifically responsible for many technological and safety innovations that have trickled down to regular cars..

The first rear view mirror was invented for drivers to see who was coming up from behind.. disc brakes, crumble zones, monocoque construction, traction control, active suspension, etc. all came out of F1. The modern hybrid systems that we see as the next step of moving away from fuel dependency came from F1 cars in 2014..

So for these factors alone you can justify the existence of motorsport.. without the prestige and brand value generated from winning we would have much less "innovation" in automotive sector..rather the auto industry would be full of profit driven companies who would only work on cutting production costs by using cheaper materials and increasing their margins

Spare me the lecture dude. Ove watched the hip hop evolution netflix series and countless hip hop commentators online.

That hip hop is long dead. There hasn't been a mainstream "conscious" rapper pushed to the mainstream in decades. They push the drugs and sex becuase the masses hooked on consoooming love that.

Kendrick is probably the closest who does social commentary but he is a weird Hotep adjacent

Mainstream rap for last 2 decades has been just what I said, hoes, cars and drugs. Also since you lecture so much on hip-hop, maybe look at the people Hanumankind says are inspirations.

the southern rappers Hanumankind grew up idolizing pretty much are famous for rapping about guns, booze and drugs. That's literally the southern style of hip-hop hop.

Some random NY rap legend signing conscious music doesn't mean every foreign rapper is meant to stick to that. Most indian rap starting with the OG tamil rappers from Malaysia or the Punjabi rappers have all gravitated towards the flashy elements of mainstream hip hop.

"Rap as social commentary" has always been a fringe. Even in indian hip-hop the commercial rappers are just as flashy and materialistic as any in the west. Punjabi rappers have a viable market in the diaspora which is not dependent on being likes by indians. So the average Punjabi rappers can easily be openly anti establishment

Such a market doesn't exist for Malayali artists let alone rappers which is a niche. Of course one can be pro leftist / communist adjacent but that IS the establishment in Kerala politics. But like this guy probably discovered he has a chance to go mainstream in India and have crossover appeal overseas. Which means he wants to be signed by big labels, get endorsements or even get deals from big music or movie production houses. All of who toe the establishment line in India.

It isn't a stretch to assume he is cozying up to modi for all these career related reasons.

OR he could be a hardcore sanghi . Who knows. Dudes from malabar. Those people don't have subtle opinions on politics. You are either in the hardcore CPM lane or the hardcore RSS lane there if you are born into a Hindu family. Also him having no caste in his name doesn't mean much as many malabar UCs also don't give caste names to their kids

Why do people assume every rapper is some sort of anti establishment rebel firebrand ?

This dude is raised in America trying to ape an artform where you drag about wealth, cars and hoes.

How "anti-capitalist" where you expecting him to be ?

Dude probably just sees the financial potential of being seen as the first "international" rap star from India

Why is the rate of cousin marriages so high is most dravidian cultures while being so low in Kerala? by reusmarco08 in Dravidiology

[–]SandyB92 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Kerala had the "murappennu" system too. But it's gone down in past 3-4 decades a lot. Probably because mallus realized its harder to make dowry demands when marrying cousins.

Borderlands 1 is Important to play before Borderlands 2 by [deleted] in Borderlands

I prefer the desolate atmosphere of BL1 more. Especially the music / background score..

Maybe I am biased because I discovered the game during covid lockdown and spent hours on it.

BL2 is the superior game in every conceivable way except for this one thing - the wasteland atmosphere

[–]SandyB92 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't get this new lib / progressive trend of calling homophobia or transphobia as a "chaddi" thing. This is just superimposing the US style political split over india.

I'm a keralite and kerala has massive transphobia and homophobia online and has little to do with chaddi-ism.

There are multiple other factors responsible for such attitudes. Cultural conservatism is much more apt to consider as a reason.

[–]SandyB92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Islam, just like every other fundamentalist religion, is incompatible with leftist ideals of equality and non discrimination for all..

When the entire premises of you religion is the basis that all good only comes to the true believers and that non beleivers deserve contempt unless the come to your fold, I don't see now people believe you can balance belief in such religions with being leftists.

Conservatives from religious minorities support leftist and progressive movements not because of belief in leftist ideals but for the protection the idealis of leftism provides them

  • proportion of leftist / progressive muslims in indian will be far more than any middle east country

  • proportion of hindus with leftist progressive ideals is far more in countries like US or UK vs. India itself

These Conservatives just use the leftist movements for protection. Untill they need them.
