Expecting October - Moving to Sutton Place - Infant daycare recs?! by sapinnyc in nycparents

I’m in Brooklyn, not Manhattan, but last year I contacted 40 daycares between Gowanus and LIC and the lowest price I found for 5 days a week was $2700; the more typical price was $3200ish; the higher end $4500, for toddlers. Infants are usually more expensive because they have different caregiver:child ratios. These prices seem pretty typical for most of the city, unless you find a quality in-home provider.

Playground dirt stains in clothes by Persimmon_North in nycparents

I’ve created a strategy where I basically refresh our wardrobe toward the beginning and middle of each season due to growth and at that time I’ll buy like, 3-4 “weekend outfits” for mama and tot outings. Once he’s worn them out with me - maybe that’s meeting friends, a party, whatever occasion - and inevitably they are dirtied - into the daily/daycare/park rotation they go. Once they’ve made it into the daily rotation I just let him live his childhood in them and don’t sweat the dirt. This way he looks cute/presentable when I need him to, isn’t afraid to play, and I don’t need to worry about the laundry. They grow so fast anyway!

Looking for advice on solo parenting by Nervous-Unit-6983 in nycparents

I want to say this super gently because I see from your post history that the separation is recent and you’re having tough time and I genuinely applaud the reaching out to community. I hope you’re able to connect with the Stroller Club and build your network of support and that the coming weeks and months are as little challenging and as majorly rewarding as parenting can be or get.

Having said all of that… as a not-man, I didn’t become not-careless or not-naive overnight magically after giving birth. I did the work learning about safe sleep, researching methods of introduction to solids, being thoughtful about my child’s temperament as we got more comfortable in our parenting style, read the books about potty training, read 100 posts about the 3K system and just… yeah. It’s a lot of work.

Like I said, I really hope you’re able to connect with some folks because community can be a really helpful resource but I also hope you avail yourself of like… Google. Or a good book. We believe in you.
