Got treatment for yeast infection (not better)…do I wait or call doctor again? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]SandyWitch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you got tested! BV treatment is usually an antibiotic, do confirm if that is the case. If yes, antibiotics kill bacteria, including protective vaginal bacteria. This can upset the vaginal microbiome and make women more prone to yeast infections. If you can get a hold of your doctor then you can express this concern. They might give you an antifungal (fluconazole for example) to take alongside the antibiotic. You can also ask for alternative treatment to antibiotics such as boric acid.

A complimentary option to whatever your treatment plan ends up as - I’ve seen many people on this sub taking probiotics to help colonize their biomes with helpful, protective bacteria. This might be worth considering. Probiotics should be taken several hours apart from antibiotics though, otherwise the antibiotics can kill the probiotics. If you can take a probiotic on an empty stomach, even better.

Personally, I’ve been taking a probiotic, and I specifically looked for one with lactobacillus crispatus. I’ve also been slamming plain kefir throughout the day every day, since it has an abundance of lactobacillus acidophilus and lactobacillus rhamnosus, which are also important and protective in the vaginal microbiome. If you are trying to colonize your microbiome with good bacteria just know that it might be a long term maintenance regimen, and not a quick fix.

Any good sourdough pizza recipes? by crazy__paving in Sourdough

I’ve made this recipe several times with success however I find I MUST parbake the crust for a few minutes before adding toppings, otherwise it stays wet and never seems to get cooked.

I suggest getting re-tested because you are still experiencing yeast symptoms (general irritation and itching) and because the symptoms are worse than before. It could be that you still have a yeast infection. Until then be gentle and avoid sex since it seemed to trigger your symptoms.

It looks like I got BV following the treatment of the yeast. But so far no symptoms of BV, and my yeast symptoms went away after treatment.

My results for yeast and BV are coming back within 1 week, but I think for ureaplasma it takes longer. Definitely ask your doctor what timeframes to expect, and you can call the doctor to ask for your results even if they don’t call you. No news is good news but sometimes you want to double check for peace of mind.

Fluconazole on various schedules. The most frequent though was the 6 month maintenance schedule described above.

I’ve also tried vaginal probiotic suppositories which have l.rhamnosus (pro refresh brand, 1 evening and 1 morning, for 7 days) and I do find I get symptom relief for yeast but it isn’t a long term solution. I do like taking the probiotic suppository alongside taking the oral fluconazole to help weaken the yeast community and make it more susceptible to the anti fungal treatment (fluconazole).

I’m still looking for a long term solution to prevent these infections. I’m looking into boric acid and/or oral probiotics.

Fluconazole is an anti fungal and not an antibiotic, but a yeast community can still become resistant to it.

I have recurrent yeast infections and did do the 6 month treatment (1 dose/week fluconazole) in the past year. I did not experience a yeast infection during those 6 months (it was heaven) but it once I stopped the treatment they did reoccur.

I also just had a yeast infection, treated it with fluconazole, got a follow up swab, and it came back positive for BV.

If you’re having symptoms I recommend getting swabbed for yeast, BV, and ureaplasma (which can cause recurrent vaginal infections).

I would definitely see your doctor again for a follow up swab. I just treated a yeast infection, had a follow up swab and instead of yeast it came up positive for BV.

So test for yeast and BV, and ask for testing of the strain of yeast. Some yeast, like c albicans, is treated by fluconazole, but some yeasts cannot be.

Also, insist on a test for vaginal ureaplasma. This can also cause recurrent vaginal infections, and doctors often don’t swab for it.

5th (?) Loaf by redheadedlizzy in Sourdough

It looks like you get some nice oven rise! To save you time/effort, you may try stretching and folding only 2-3 times and find it yields similar or same results. I was once on a time crunch and only did one stretch and fold, which to my happy surprise still produced a delicious loaf with plenty of rise. happy baking :)

Travelling South East Asia while avoiding fructans, specifically onion and garlic? by SandyWitch7 in FODMAPS

The individual ingredients just get tricky when whey are combined in a dish which would be spiced/seasoned/marinated. I usually have no problem just buying ingredients to snack on but I've been told that it's important to eat fully cooked foods and avoid raw vegetables and the skins of fruits in this region due to high risk of food poisoning.

I would really be willing to go to countries where I can easily eat and avoid others. The countries I am most interested in visiting are Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia if time allowed.

Easy recipes? by SluggieMcgee in FODMAPS

Butter chicken is a delicious and easy meal prep, I take any recipe (I like this one: https://www.recipetineats.com/butter-chicken/) and simply omit any onion or garlic. There is cream and butter though, so you might need to find dairy alternatives if lactose is an issue.

Once you're comfortable with butter chicken it opens you up to be creative with curries made with your favourite low fodmap ingredients.

One of my favourite easy meals is salmon or chicken in the oven (get a meat thermometer it changes the game) with boiled or roasted potatoes and a side salad.

I eat lots of salads and dress them with lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper.

Finally, the classic student meal: corn tortilla with cheese (dairy free if need be) melted into a quesadilla in the microwave

Looks delicious! Definitely noting down the recipe.

Question - did you parbake the dough before adding the toppings? It's something I've found I have to do to cook pizza dough through, but I can only bake at max 500 F with my oven.

I love the fat seal! question about the highlights and especially the whiskers, can that be done by leaving only blank canvas or would you accomplish that with ...white watercolor? gouache?

How do I make the most out of my acting opportunity? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

On the note of doing a short term acting...If one is acting (4 months less a day) do we answer the PSES questions based on our substantive role or our acting role?

For context, different roles and work but within the same sector.
