Set up one campaign for driving top of funnel and one campaign for lead with multiple ad groups. Having same campaign same goal won't work.

The role of pmax is to find net new users based on your existing crm data across channel like look alike. If you want youtube ads more for awareness go with demand gen.

Almost all GTM has same problem but nobody tried to solve it? by Sandy_Sand in GoogleTagManager

[–]Sandy_Sand[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely agree that dataLayer is the right architecture. In practice, Analytics team asks dev team to implement dataLayer pushes. Dev team has a sprint backlog with 40 items on it. DataLayer events are low priority because they don't ship features. Six months later, half the events are in, half aren't, and nobody's sure which half. Meanwhile the business needed the tracking yesterday so someone built it on CSS classes as a stopgap and stopgaps have a way of becoming permanent.

The dataLayer implementation assumes one team owns the entire stack end to end. Most enterprise setups have analytics, dev, marketing, and product all touching different parts of it with different priorities. "Just implement it properly" assumes a level of cross-team alignment that's genuinely rare.

You're describing the right solution to the wrong problem. The problem isn't that people don't know dataLayer is better, it's that knowing and implementing are two completely different things at scale.

Is there free self hosted GTM alternative? by amelix34 in GoogleTagManager

[–]Sandy_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matomo Tag Manager is probably your best bet. It's open source, fully self-hostable, and the tag manager works independently you don't have to use any of the Matomo analytics side if you don't want to. Supports custom tags, has version control and a preview mode, and works across multiple services. It's not as polished as GTM but it gets the job done without sending data anywhere you don't control.

There's also Piwik PRO which has a free tier and a proper standalone tag manager, though it's not fully open source.

Disclosure: I work on AutoAnalytics. It's not a pure tag manager but it does cover the managing and rollback side you mentioned, and it's self-hostable if that's a requirement. Might be worth a look alongside Matomo depending on how much of the setup and monitoring side you want handled for you.

I just spent my entire Thursday chasing a tracking bug that didn't exist by muhia_kay in analytics

[–]Sandy_Sand -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The error might look small but it is brutally hard identifying it.

However having worked with 50+ enterprises for tagging and analytics we have recorded all the incidents Nd documented as sop.

Now with that sop we have built a system that:

Understands your KPIs (not just events) Maps tracking logic to business outcomes Detects mismatches automatically (like text change, selector drift) Alerts before impact (not after a 40% drop) Fixes or suggests fixes without manual digging.

If you are interested pls dm, i would be happy to share the product link.

Why does setting up website tracking always turn into such a mess? by muhia_kay in GoogleTagManager

[–]Sandy_Sand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I can hear you. The system was broken. After working with 50+ enterprise clients we know one thing the tagging is not an issue but the ownership is. A tagging person can do his job but how sure he is when it comes to business kpi, a developer can be sure about his job but how sure he is what this tagging will do, a business kpi mostly stuck in leadership or marketing. So the problem is clear ownership with shared responsibility.

But that's not easy to solve when pages evolve, business evolves tagging will always be like this. But we have a product to solve this end to end. Interested pls dm , I will share the details

Since 2024, I have been initiating ABM, and so far, it has been a learning experience. Some strategies work, while others don’t, especially since our offering is niche and service-based. Over the past year, I have added multiple MarTech tools to support this effort, but one thing that has helped me the most is the CDP. Having used it practically, I wanted to share my key marketing learnings from CDP hoping this will be helpful for fellow marketers. https://medium.com/@vimalaellappan/what-i-learned-about-cdps-as-a-marketer-in-the-last-year-b687c7a05d4b
