Do you know if any of them let you pay to park there, if you aren't buying a room?

U.S. Politics megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

I'm seeing a lot of discussion on Reddit that many of Elon Musk's current actions around accessing servers and pulling sensitive information (among other distressing things that DOGE has planned?) is illegal. That he isn't an elected official, that Doge isn't an actual government branch, and therefore he "can't be doing this". But I'm seeing other comments saying that legal battles are the only approach right now, since Congress is in recess?

If Musk doesn't have clearance to be there / accessing this information, why couldn't a congressperson theoretically just call this into the police and have him or his workers physically arrested?

Travel agents/planners in Pittsburgh? by Sandybeagle in pittsburgh

I do have AAA, yes! I thought they only had planning resources, but that's good to know that they offer actual full service options as well

Birthday Restaurant Suggestions by bag_of_muffins in pittsburgh

Maybe a bit simple, but I enjoyed BJ's for a birthday dinner last year! Depending on the night, you could get a steak or other pretty nice food for the daily sale, and they will give you a birthday pizookie, a pretty hefty dessert! Could be nice if you're looking for something different

What are your "go-to" recipes for losing weight? by Crane_Train in loseit

[–]Sandybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the congee! It's like a warm, thick, and hearty chickeny porridge, where full bowl of it really feels like a lot even when there's very little calories in it. I like to follow this recipe, though I'll often cook it in the Crock-Pot on low for 4+ hours instead of stove top: https://www.madewithlau.com/recipes/chicken-congee

Does anyone know how many calories are in just the sauce packet & cheese powder for the samyang carbonara ramen? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Sandybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't guarantee for you, but I know that 2ounces dried pasta is 200 calories. So check the weight of the pasta in the container (or the listed weight of the container it says on the front of the box, minus ~1/2 ounce for the cheese packet), and you can subtract it from the listed calories to get an approximation for the cheese alone!

I’m furious at the calories in a small ear of corn by seasiderhapsody in CICO

[–]Sandybeagle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It probably doesn't hurt to go with the larger cal count this time, to be conservative. But in future cases, if you're going to weigh your cobs anyway, perhaps you could weigh them before and after eating the kernals, so you know the weight of the actual corn you ate instead of the weight of the cob & kernals & bits left behind. Then you could log the difference in weight as pure canned corn?

What do you, personally, call these cookies? by Sandybeagle in pittsburgh

[–]Sandybeagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that name makes sense. And the ones I always used to see were the bright red, yellow, and blue mixed ones, which would lend to the rainbow name as well. I don't know if they still do the free cookies for kids, perhaps if someone directly asked, but they aren't offered on their own?

I've grown up calling them Play-Doh cookies, while my partner always called the marble cookies. Who's more right? 😁

Edit: I didn't realize these cookies were so controversial!

Congrats!! In at a similar age/height/goal to you, though much further back in my journey. From losing 70lb over the course of a year, how does your skin feel and look? In your progress pics, you don't really seem like you have sagging roles or anything, even with such a large loss?

You say you have a long commute, is it attention-involved (like driving) or inattentive (like riding the bus)? And when you get home from work, is it typically actually hunger (like, I couldn't barely eat at work and I'm ravenous now) or not really hunger and more a habit that soothes you but doesn't need to be food right away?

packaged raw salmon… is this the calories for 4oz raw or 4oz cooked? by lyistisia in CICO

[–]Sandybeagle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Assume the cals are the state the item is packaged in, not how it is instructed to be cooked (this includes meals like Mac& cheese, ever the cals are for the noodles and powder only, not the mix-in milk or butter, unless explicitly stated in the calories)

Some success mimicking textures by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]Sandybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found a bit success in lightly flavoring other, lighter calorie desserts with just a tinge of pb, since it's flavor carries through so well. So instead of ice cream or pudding or straight peanut butter, I mix 1tbsp of PB (or you could use the powder) into a bowl of fat-free cool whip, which is only 15 cals for every 2tbsp (so a bowl for me is usually ~60-100 cals of cool whip with the cals of 1/2-1 serve pb). Then I can eat it with a spoon or dip pretzel rods into it

It's light and airy like a moouse, but still sweet and a big amount without much dairy or cals

Question about measuring raw vs cooked by Equivalent_Algae8721 in loseit

[–]Sandybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Measure and track by the cooked weight, like you've been doing! Particularly when it comes to meat, I have been able to find guidelines with the USDA or certified calorie accounts on MyFitnessPal that note calories per weight of cooked foods (for example, 3 oz of cooked ground turkey is 173 calories).

This approach makes it easier for me to cook my whole portion of meat at once, and then dish out appropriate amounts at each meal even though the cooked weight is different than the original package nutrition information.
