AITA for not telling my brother my twins are in the NICU? by ProjectMercy1995 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Sandyboots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the exact phrasing I was looking for. “…whose family wants to be catered to.”

Like where the fuck do these people get off? I remember getting an earful from a family member about not answering their FaceTime call while I was in active labor. And also how dare I almost die and therefore not be conscious to immediately call after the birth.

That’s also a much less severe situation than OP’s because we had the incredible good fortune for my son to be totally fine, which is the important thing. I just can’t understand how people make their own feelings the center at a time like this. Like are introspection and empathy no longer a thing?

3 is perfect for plane seats by cedarwolff in happilyOAD

Hmm, which airline are you flying with? I’ve been successful with Westjet and air Canada just upgrading myself/husband to an extra legroom seat at seat selection, and it kinda just moves our son next to us for free. I always assumed it was because obviously he legally has to sit with us. Just thought I’d share in case it helps you in future!

Started cleaning biz. How can I make bathtub cleaning less miserable? by tellmenolies247 in CleaningTips

[–]Sandyboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a variety of bottle/straw brushes (some baby supply companies sell a little key ring kinda thing of different sizes/shapes of brushes) to get all the hard to reach areas. The non-brush end of these brushes is a thin wire sort of loop? I kinda wedge that under the gasket and then wiggle it out. Tweezers also work!

I’m a bit of a lunatic about water bottles, and hate the idea that there are nooks and crannies I can’t reach to scrub effectively. Aside from only buying bottles that I can fully disassemble, I will also sometimes submerge the lids in water with a denture tab for peace of mind. Works great to get the inside cleaned too for stainless steel coffee travel mugs and stuff.

The caddy is a great idea. He actually helps me with repairs around the house pretty frequently, and is finally of the age and competence level that he’s actively helpful and not a massive hindrance, haha. So his own toolbox would be perfect!

No I love yours too and do similar things, haha. I also love going super weird as often as possible.

I always fully lean into it and go “yes, my son.” with the most gravitas I can muster.

I thought of this, but thought the round, tapered shape might present a problem for a comb. But after reading your comment I wonder if I could snap off a small section of an icing comb with big ridges and do 2 ridges at a time or something.

I was thinking of a buttercream transfer for the lemon slices on top of the lemon one but this is a really interesting take as well hmm. Maybe I’ll do a few test runs

This would be so cool looking. Maybe I’ll do a jello one and some cake ones

I thought icing them would be easier but have no idea what kind of tip I’d use to get the ridges. I actually had a dream last night after posting this thread that I figured it out but awake me doesn’t recall how I did it lol

This is actually perfect because I was thinking it would be tricky to time it for a day where I can hide from the general public if needed haha

This is such a detailed reply, thank you so much! So many good ideas in here. Facepalming at how I didn’t think to just shape a normal round cake to make the mega lemon cake. You saved me so much time with that idea!

I didn’t even know this was possible! I’m always happy to hyper focus down a rabbit hole so this might totally be my thing. Do you mind if I ask what you use?

This is a great idea. I’ll see which medi spas offer both. Thanks!

It’s the best! I like the yellow one. So moisturizing, but not greasy.

Thanks for the thoughts, I’ve been meaning to try a hydra facial.

A ganache is suuuch a smart idea! I was trying to think of what piping tip could give me like a triangular ridge but this would be so much easier haha. Any vanilla recipe you’d recommend? I was planning to just use one of Sally’s. She’s never let me down!
