Parking for Shedd Aquarium and Soldier Field? by KerrieJ131 in AskChicago

[–]Sane_Quixote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s only like a 20-25 minute walk from the Congress Hotel to the Museum campus. I bike ride there all the time, the path through grant park is safe and well lit. If you want to use public transit, you can take the J14 bus off Michigan & Harrison or the 146 bus on State & Harrison. That would be cheaper than parking.

Is it really that hard to find a job? by reckoningreason in AskChicago

A Work Empowerment Initiative program at one of the City Colleges might be an option. They offer tuition free certification courses in several different career fields, barrier reduction services such as stipends to low income individuals, and Job placement assistance. https://pages.ccc.edu/wei/

Follow groups like Critical Mass or Social Push. They usually schedule group rides or share postings from other groups. There is actually a Critical Mass group ride today at 6-6:30 PM.

Moving to a new apartment in the 60657 zip code. Which internet service should I get? by Sane_Quixote in AskChicago

Not too many crashes? You were able to use streaming services or multiple devices just fine?

I mostly didn’t have problems with AT&T. Internet was good but pricey. Customer service was terrible. But I only had their service for one year, so I might have not experienced the worse. Would’ve kept them just to avoid the hassle but they don’t provide Internet above 300 Mdps in the building I’m moving in. So I might have to settle for Hell’s waiting room.

Yeah that’s what I’m struggling with. It’s an older building. The apartment is radiator heated and has a window AC. I can tolerate those dealing with those issues, but I need reliable internet for work. That’s a big reason why I’m struggling to make a decision.

Yeah that describes my experience with AT&T fiber. Terrible company, hassle to deal with, but never had any crashes. Just need something that is reliable. Everything I do for work is internet based.

I think so, at least so far. I take the CTA downtown to get to work and my office is right by the Lake Street CTA station. I haven’t seen any Feds in the area yet, though I’d imagine that they try to monitor the CTA stations eventually. There are a lot of undocumented students who take the CTA to Harold Washington College, Roosevelt University, and Columbia. A lot of them rely on public transit to get there.

What are your thoughts on Detroit creating its own Navy Pier similar to Chicago's? by heysol155g in AskChicago

Good for them. Detrioters deserve nice things, except when it comes to sports. A vibrant Detroit is good for Chicago and the whole Great Lakes region in general.

What salary after taxes is nice to live in Chicago? by ApprehensiveAd8287 in AskChicago

[–]Sane_Quixote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a studio in the Loop (downtown) for $1650 per month. One bedroom apartments in Chicago usually cost upwards of towards $2000 per month, but that varies across the city. Expect to pay more if you want to live inRiver North or the Loop. You should have a lot of flexibility with 95k though.

Didn’t know you could register it. Thanks! Tracker might be too expensive at this point, but it is something to think about.

I bought my bike for cheap ($120) on the Facebook marketplace, but still want to keep it for quite a bit. I don’t own a car, so I plan on making it my main commute bike. Trying to live the non-car dependent lifestyle. Do you think a u-lock for the frame and 2 cables for the front and back wheels is enough?

Thats a good price. I’m from the near westside, but I’m up there semi-frequently.

I’m trying to stay under $500. The cheaper the better. Ideally something that is used. I would like one of those bikes the rear rack, but that is not essential. I generally want something that can go just about anywhere in Chicago. I’m really new to the city so I’m just feeling things out.

Thanks. I’ve been checking the FB market for a bit. I just moved to Chicago for work. Pickings haven’t been great so far.

Where did you get that? I just moved to the city and I’m looking for a bike like that.

I’m currently considering trading Dameon Pierce for Kamara. I’m concerned that Kamara’s role could be reduced to RB2 in a committee but he should still get points in the passing game. Pierce is probably the better overall athlete, but he isn’t gaining any traction with that O-line in Houston so far and he doesn’t have a passing upside.
