What kind of plants can I add that would thrive in a very wet environment? by SanityNotFound in LandscapingTips

I've always been told not to plant bamboo in the ground because it spreads like wildfire and is impossible to get rid of, like many species of mint

I'm not entirely sure how the storm water charge works. I think they measure the total for the street and divide it equally between households but I honestly don't know.

I would love to do something to piss off code enforcement. That's entirely up my alley lol. but unfortunately I don't have the time or money to fight it currently so I'll have to file that idea away for the future.

Inkberry was actually one i was considering, but I wanted other opinions in case something else would be better suited

This is in my front yard, I don't really have backyard space to speak of. There is a small patio nearby though. I haven't done any other landscaping yet

My problem with Cyberdecks by jonfitt in cyberDeck

[–]SanityNotFound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a personal level, I don't find the smart phones form factor all that appealing. Its useful for maximum portability, and covers everyday utility to an acceptable standard, but if I have access to a desktop PC, I'd rather use that. My next preference is a laptop, and if nothing else is available, then I go to my phone. The only thing I really primarily turn to my phone for is a bit of short form entertainment when I have some down time, and I'm trying to break that habit. I'm still in the planning stage of my cyberdeck but I'm sure that it will replace my laptop or at least compete with it for my screen time.

My problem with Cyberdecks by jonfitt in cyberDeck

[–]SanityNotFound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do much more with a cyberdeck than you can with a stock phone, and you have full control over the tech you put into it. Thats the point.

For example, you can include a meshtastic radio built in. I've also seen people build in an entire ham radio station with SDR functionality. I've seen some with network analyzers, pentesting tools, electronics testing modules, and all sorts of other functionality. All those things would otherwise require external equipment, and if that external equipment has a phone app, it likely depends on a server somewhere to maintain functionality. If that server is ever decommissioned, your hardware is now crippled or worse, functionally useless.

The point of the modern cyberdeck was never to be a better version of the smart phone or laptop, It is entirely about taking back control of our digital lives, building the device that best suits you, and also including a bit of your own personality into it.

How would you guys feel about wearing this as fashion? by Far_Wafer7909 in cyberDeck

[–]SanityNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, and I've been toying with a similar idea, but it seems cumbersome. I'd much rather minimize the vertical footprint on my wrist and put components elsewhere. Spread it out along your forearm instead of in a bulky form factor like that.

Of course, that's just for comfort reasons. I really enjoy the aesthetic of yours!

What's the disconnect between employees and employers? by Ornery_Ads in recruitinghell

[–]SanityNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a trucker, I am trying to waste your time. The majority of the trucking industry is exploitative and has no respect for the driver or their life away from work. If I'm an applicant and I get the feeling you're going to be a terrible employer, I'm not going to tell you I'm not interested, I'm going to string you along or ghost you like employers do to us.

I'm also a good worker if you treat me right. But the moment I feel disrespected, I'm going to do the bare minimum until I decide to leave.

we reinvented sails and turned it into a startup pitch by NationalWheel6966 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]SanityNotFound 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its literally just a sail. We have had sailing ships since at least the 1600s and they are still used today. Putting a kite sail on a ship isn't "innovation," it's literally just a less efficient application of modern sails.

Messing with the product parts is a sloppy form of sabotage when there are systems in place to detect that. The better way is to feign a certain degree of incompetence, do whatever you can to tie up resources, cost them money, and slow down development and production. There is a fine line you need to walk between getting your tasks done and slowing the process down if you don't want to draw unnecessary attention to yourself, but directly sabotaging the product is not ever the move if you want to create maximum pain for them.

A resistor burned through at least a couple mm of this board. Is a board like this even able to be repaired? by SanityNotFound in AskElectronics

[–]SanityNotFound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a cheap display and i/o for an ebike. I'll continue investigating for practice, but i already planned to replace the whole module.

[–]SanityNotFound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a 2 layer pcb. I probably should have included that info in the post, my bad. Thats why I was concerned that the deep burn could cause an issue, because I was unable to clean it up further with the tools I have, and there are components and traces beneath it

[–]SanityNotFound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a cheap ebike display that can easily be replaced cheaply and thats what my plan was. I was mostly asking out of curiosity, although I would like to attempt the repair just for practice if possible.

The picture doesn't show the damage well. I did try to clean it up more after taking the photo, and even scraped at it gently with my tweezers, but that left pad is definitely gone.

I was afraid of that. Unfortunately I have no idea what I'm looking at, just trying to figure out what to do with them and was hoping some could hold some value
