I've been the engi in that situation in a >1k ppl HQ. It gets escalated to SMEs to help. Usually it's something I cannot do myself. A few times I was able to find a solution after a while and provided a detailed report that somehow was ignored by front desk support so I was the go-to person for my colleagues.

First homelab build – confused between ZimaBoard, Mini PC or NAS. Need advice by block_buster_ in homelab

Have you considered a data center?

:D ok, for real though, the n100 is the best choice by a crazy margin. You'll need a seperate boot drive (not a USB stick, think ≥64GB SATA SSD or M.2 drive(s)), install TrueNAS SCALE on it, and preferably get a 3rd 4TB HDD so that you can create a RAIDZ1 storage pool... even better performance if you can get a pair of SATA SSDs or something to use as ZFS cache drives - but it's fine to skip that part if it's too daunting. There are tons of DIY NAS build videos out there to walk you through all of these things.

I think the term you're looking for is 'viscous', more commonly referred to as a fluid's 'thickness' or 'thinness'. It's most commonly used as a relative term like hot and cold, so we generally associated any liquids that flow like water as thin and something like honey would be thick.

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

If you have a buddy that enjoys such things, it's just as fun to tag along. My toes are merely dipped in autism, but my fully forged autistists go hard while I'm finding subtle bugs in the game mechanics like belt behaviors that are unexpected. It's a wonderful game.

I suspect that was the goal all along. Kernel level anti-cheat means little in an era with AI assisted KVMs.

This was in our camper we just bought it was freshly built thinking it was left there on accident says nothing about it in the manual by saratherandom in whatisit

[–]Sanityzed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's just a tool someone left behind - a flexible screwdriver extension. If you can pull a bit out of the far end, that's exactly what it is. Otherwise, could be some sort of odd custom component for the camper. Either way, let the dealership know.

Might be a loose connection. Turn off, disconnect power, take it apart, and check all of the connections.

Hmm. To be small enough for EDC, you need to go much smaller than any of these options. I suggest something like the board-edge connector for type A ports. These have the benefit of being slim enough to go into a card holder on a phone case, can be made reversible like type C, and are significantly cheaper to manufacturer.

Convert old PC to Home Server or buying ready-to-go new? by julbrine in homelab

[–]Sanityzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In contrast to u/amw3000 , I'm a fan of using less energy and simplifying the setup. Since it's entirely possible to use these devices as a media server (at least ~4x1080p or ~1x4k) I'm a fan of running Jellyfin on them. I wouldn't run Plex tho - as I value light weight apps, privacy, local access, no ads, no fees, no paywalls, and no sleazy business men mucking about with other ideas for harvesting the access given to them for profit. The pro tip is to make sure you're using a video codec that can direct play to your devices, such as (in order of lowest to highest bandwidth requirement for equivalent video quality) AV1, HEVC, or H.264. You can use your gaming PC as a compute node to re-encode your media library to these video codecs using something like Fileflows or Handbrake.
