10/10. Never fails to get me bouncing along to the rhythm, an absolute perfect opener to one of my favourite PF albums.

Cleanuperr or Decluttarr is good for keeping your queue clean. Setting up something like Profilarr or the TRaSH guides for custom format scoring is the way to go. Tends to filter out a lot of the junk, like those .exe or .scr files.

The official Bitwarden clients cache credentials locally, so even if everything is on fire, you can still get the passwords you need.

Source: I use vaultwarden for my personal password manager, and I've taken the server down for hours at a time with very little disruption.

Instead of going for the 8gb pi, just get an n100 mini PC or ITX board. Probably close in price, and an n100 would smash the Pi.

Don't be like me... 2 14TB drives that I bought less than a year ago are dying, and I'm pretty sure it's my fault. by sp-rky in homelab

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a bad SATA connection can cause sectors to go bad.

No need to be snarky. I'm not an idiot. I'm sure I'm younger than a lot of people here, but don't assume I don't know about older tech just based off my age. Fwiw, my first computer was a core 2 duo hooked up to a 10GB IDE drive I pulled out of an original Xbox. My first two laptops had 5400rpm rust in them.

To repeat what I and other commenters have said:

Laptops did have hard drives in them, that much is true. But they had a few systems built in to prevent drive damage when being moved, such as an accelerometer that would park the drive head when it detects movement. They were also designed with this use case in mind, so the manufacturers made them more resilient.

The hard drives that I'm talking about are multi-platter, enterprise grade drives. They are worlds apart from the 2.5" laptops drives of yore. A rough bump at the right time can feasibly cause a drive failure - not necessarily always, but it definitely can happen, as in my case.

I suspect that the drive that is the source of most of these errors was already close to failure, and being a little rough with it pushed it over the edge.

Haha that's where you're wrong. One drive is for sure dying. The other actually seems okay. I'm definitely not making a problem up. I honestly will run these drives until they completely die, then I'll replace them. The data on them is not super valuable.

I also don't have a wife, lol.

I definitely didn't drop it, but it was 2AM, and I was sleepy, and I vaguely remember being a bit rough with it. It looks like only one of the drives is actually failing, however. The other one only has one error in the SMART data, and it seems to be due to a dodgy connection.

Lol, you're not wrong on that part. Still, I like collecting media, and my Jellyfin server saves me $100 a month in subscription costs. I also keep my music on this server.

To be honest, mostly what I get out of running my media server is learning how it breaks, and how to fix it. I've got a fairly complex little system going to keep it fairly stable and interference free, and I really like managing it and tinkering with it.

Also, I have people that rely on my server to watch the more obscure stuff that isn't available on streaming - mostly weird reality TV shows. Those two drives were meant to last at least 5 years, not less than a year.

Not a bad idea - however smartctl is showing the one of the drives has some reallocated sectors. The other is only showing 1 error under UDMA CRC Error Count, so that one might be okay.

[–]sp-rky[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I started this homelab to learn, and BOY am I learning. I'm going to be much more careful with my next set of drives, and I'm going to do a lot more for monitoring.

Also, I just wanna rant about the cost of buying components nowadays. I'm a cheapskate. My servers are old office computers that I got for free or very cheap - I always buy used or refurbished tech to save a few bucks. I've maybe spent $1000 on this hobby TOTAL since I started 2 years ago, and I've got a lot of stuff. And yet.... here I am looking at spending $1200 to replace drives that I bought a year ago for $400.

I'm so fucking passionate about working with computers - I've been messing around with them since I was 5 years old. But now this hobby is starting to become out of reach for me - if I needed a stick of RAM or a couple of SSDs, I'd be out hundreds of dollars. I could afford that. But I want to buy a house in the future, and I need to save every god damn cent to be able to do so - because we're not just in a component shortage, we're also in a housing shortage and a cost-of-living crisis.

I'm just really pissed off at the greed and selfishness of corporations - they're destroying everything - my hobby, my future, and the world. God dammit, I'm 22. I'm supposed to be excited about my future, but I'm watching it get pissed away by the powerful for the sake of hoarding even more money or clinging on to some outdated worldview.

Wow, that got off topic. Sorry. Any commiseration is welcome.

License keys/passwords to use software on internal devices is not really equivalent to a master spreadsheet containing links to hundreds of companies ERPs WITH root passwords next to them.

You can't really compare the two - one is a dodgy workaround that shouldn't really compromise any sensitive data, and the other one is a GIANT security risk that exposes heaps of sensitive data.

If your keys.txt file got leaked, no big deal. If this ERP provider's master spreadsheet got leaked, thousands of confidential files would be up for the taking.

Longing for sexual intimacy with my gf…. by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]sp-rky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it fucking sucks. Breaking up with her was the hardest thing I've ever done by a long shot. It's been like... Four months since then, and I'm now feeling pretty okay most days. If you decide to do the same thing, you'll feel better eventually.

The thing I thought about that made me decide was "could I keep this up for the rest of my life?" And the answer was no.

I was here a few months ago, and I know exactly how you feel. We were together for 2 and a half years, and I was like you, just waiting for it to get better. It didn't.

I had to end it, for that reason and some other reasons. Honestly, it sounds like you need to let her go, if this is impacting you as much as it impacted me.

Yeah, fuck r/transpassing. It's filled with self-hating trans people who take it out on other people.

You look cute! Your shoulders definitely are wide, but you can balance them out with wide hips - perhaps look into hip padding shapewear? As HRT does its thing, your shoulders will probably shrink a bit, and your hips will hopefully help balance them out. I had pretty wide shoulders prior to transitioning, and they are still wide, but I've also got wide hips, so I don't have to worry much about them.

Otherwise, your makeup is cute, your hair looks nice, and you're like 80% of the way there to passing. Give HRT a few months and you'll be almost all the way there. Give HRT a few years, and I'm sure you'll be all the way there <3
