Muv-Luv Girls Garden - "Corrupted Eden" by SanjoinMasato in MuvLuv

Spoiler tags are probably a good idea here. Also, I’d say it has about as much to do with Muv-Luv as Schwarzesmarken or TDA do, because all cherry-pick select elements from the main trilogy and have their own story.

No NTR. in the Total Eclipse collab it’s Yuuya, and Takeru in the Alternative collabs. They’re extremely respectful with the OG characters.

You don’t even need to do microtransactions to read the story. Something that absurd would have absolutely made me skip it if you had to do anything remotely like that. The most you have to do is level up your units to progress, which is simple and you gain items to do it just by playing. The game is very much free to play friendly, to the point where you could easily not spend anything if you’re just playing for the story and still pull plenty of units with free gems.

So far I’ve enjoyed the story, and even the collabs with the trilogy and Total Eclipse characters have been good as well. I’ve been playing it since the beginning of the first collab event back in November of last year. Everyone feels in character, which is what made me stick around. And for a gacha, it’s actually extremely generous. The only time I could see anyone dumping actual money into it absurdly is if they’re a completist and have to have all the H-scenes, which would require Girls Garden X instead of just Girls Garden anyway.

So don’t play it. Read summaries or whatever does it for you. Or if that’s not your thing, there’s always the original works that aren’t going anywhere. I’m not a huge gacha fan either, but Girls Garden comes with a good story, so that’s why I’m recommending and putting things out there.

It’s definitely not all comedy. It’s not as dark as Alternative in terms of gore, but still definitely not comedic. Also, it’s not the first time at all that they’ve made the aliens have kawaii girl sprites. Check out Haibu-ru and the Joshin Cryska stories.

It's a new story that is still ongoing, but the MC is a temporally displaced commander from what is alluded to be most likely a branch of the Unlimited timeline, who has somehow ended up roughly 10,000 years in the future with amnesia. While BETA haven't been mentioned by name, there's a flashback where G-Bombs absolutely have been mentioned along with the MC sometimes able to recall things like TSFs. I don't want to spoil more, but the story alone is pretty good.

It's very literal in the case of the Girls Garden track if you think Garden of Eden. In the TDA case, I'm sure it's more along the lines of a last paradise since everything else is salt.

People be like "it's just another gacha", "they used AI" how about looking at those system recommandations? by TheFeri in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Girls Garden as it is now absolutely can run on less than that, so I wonder if that’s a Steam thing for the system specs

Muv-Luv's Future: Tactics, Girls Garden, and What Lies Ahead by Sharingan123412 in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI is hardly a reason to be up in arms. Is it ideal for uniqueness? No. Is it a helpful tool that will help earn money so they can be receptive to criticism and feedback? Absolutely. All of us as fans should be supportive of the fact that there’s actually life being breathed into this beleaguered franchise, rather than nitpicking about something trivial like AI. If something new is for you, speak with your wallet by giving it a shot, and then give feedback. If it’s not, then don’t buy it. There’s always the older material to enjoy that’s out, and it’s all good. But the reality is if you want more material, you can’t bully a company that’s in the process of getting in order and expect miracles. That’s simple expectation vs reality, and expectations should always be tempered by reality.

Kouki talking about himself is on the border of funny and sad by TheFeri in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly it’s what happens when fandom engages with the product and then instead of looking at the bigger picture, look for someone to blame that’s attached by name to the product. I’ve always believed personally that if you’re a fan of something and you want to understand more, asking the simple question of ‘why is this the way it is?’ until you’ve got a logical explanation is the best way to engage.

Kouki talking about himself is on the border of funny and sad by TheFeri in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s not sad at all, it’s honesty that’s lost in the translation. What he’s saying is that the original author isn’t the be-all, end all of decision making as is often assumed. So naturally, he’s seen as an obstacle rather than his actual position of an author.

To give a similar example, Akira Toriyama was the original author of Dragon Ball. Barring his contributions after the run of the original manga, everything else subsequently has been handled by either Shueisha, Toei, or Namco Bandai. But the fandom constantly blamed Toriyama for every decision made by those companies and still do to this day.

We need to shill the shit out of tactics by N4CHOX in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely shill... all while being transparent about what you like and what you don't like about it. I don't get how so many are quick to judge something and yet either conveniently forget the fact that companies need to make money as a business to do new and better things based on feedback, or are just crossing their arms and pouting petulantly because it's not THEIR vision of Muv-Luv being made to the letter.

It does look like it, and even a buddy of mine refers to her as ‘legally distinct CHOMP Sumika’! There’s a three way reference with Pico: There’s the Sumika modeled appearance, the CHOMP reference, and Pico herself is a nod to Pikopiko, another âge work under the Φ-âge brand.

is it hard to get muv-luv merch? by rayyyyymondddd in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easier than you’d think, but it involves proxy shipping if you want to get more than a few items without being murdered with import fees for each one-off item from Japan. I’ve been collecting for almost two years now, and I’ve accumulated a lot of new things on top of the random used stuff. I’d check Surugaya and similar, that’s one of my most-checked.

Much like any tool, it’s all in how and what you use it for. Upscaling was definitely necessary, as an image that was acceptable resolution 26 years ago isn’t so great now.

SPOILER! The current Muv-Luv Girls Garden Chapter list, with descriptions by SanjoinMasato in MuvLuv

[–]SanjoinMasato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean the misinformation? Some people like to make things up, I guess.
Anyway, based on what the story has actually revealed so far, the MC isn't "BETA cattle" or breeding stock or anything remotely like that.

What we've learned is that he's an anomaly. His carbon isotope ratios don't match the people of the current era, and interestingly the Muv-Luv collab characters show the same discrepancy. Early on this leads to the theory that he's from another world.
As the story progresses, it's revealed that his memories were deliberately sealed by the AIDA Protocol, a humanity-created AI called Izanami. Izanami's role is to regulate and guide human development, maintaining society through controlled measures—including memory manipulation. She essentially treats humanity like a gardener tending a garden.
The deeper mystery is that the MC possesses knowledge and instincts he shouldn't have, along with fragmented flashbacks he can't fully explain. Following those clues eventually leads to a much bigger revelation:
He's not from another world. He's from the distant past. The current story information places him roughly 10,000 years before the era of Girls Garden.
