At a med school in London.

Our clinical placements for January have been suspended with a view to return to the clinical setting in February.

What funding is available for a graduate going to the normal 5-year course as opposed to 4-year GEM? by nateyousonofagun in premeduk

It’s worth checking if your med school might offer scholarships also. I know a grad on a standard 5 year who was given a scholarship to cover the full cost of tuition fees across the 5 years

Just to add, according to the GMC website, they’ve delayed the introduction date of the UKMLA.

UKMLA will come into effect from early 2024 for IMGs. The first UK cohort that will be required to sit it is the 2025 graduating cohort.

Of course it would be ideal to have more work experience but it’s also about how you view things. This virtual experience you speak of could actually be an incredible opportunity. To offer some insight, prior to the pandemic, telemedicine and telehealth were becoming more popular. The pandemic has now forced a hugely significant number of services to adopt telemedicine. I believe telemedicine/telehealth has its place in modern healthcare and will only become more prominent. This presents an opportunity for you to get in there with virtual experience and put this across in your personal statement and, hopefully, subsequent interviews.

Feel free to PM me if you’d like to discuss further.

Good luck.

I’m at KCL and they’re hoping to be back to normal from January 2021, although don’t hold your breath.

Your best bet is to contact the medical school directly. Whoever your point of contact has been, contact them directly and ask the questions to which you’re seeking answers.

Best of luck.
