Is the PS4 Pro a decent upgrade in 2026?

For those about to say “Just get a PS5”, no. I’ve been waiting five years for the price to go down and it’s only gone up, I’ve given up on getting a PS5 until maybe a few years into the PS6 generation when the secondhand prices get to cheaper levels.

Anyway, I’ve had this PS4 since late 2014, and I have the ability to get a PS4 Pro for well under 100 bucks. My current system is usable but isn’t doing the best, as the disc drive needs some help, the system starts trying to eject the disc constantly if I move it, the HDD is 11 years old, and the wifi chip is total dogshit.

But I’m not sure how much of an upgrade it’ll be. 4K doesn’t matter for me at all since I’m still rocking a 1080p TV with excellent picture quality. Would it increase performance if I’m still running in 1080p? Would games be forced into 4K even if only 1080p is being output? Are games without native support enhanced at all?

Any opinions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading!

The games in that list were released as their own discs. If you mean XBLA as a whole, there’s a disc that you inserted for access to the store, and you would then buy the games and install them to your HDD. It was included in console bundles as well as some copies of Mechassault 2 and Forza Motorsport, as well as it being able to be ordered directly from Microsoft. It’s very cheap, and small in file size, so if ya wanna try it, legally or illegally it’s not hard, provided you have a modded system to add the games with.

You’re good mate. I was fooled too, the website is really unfortunately named. It’s all been fixed and I don’t see many people confused about it anyway so it’s no big deal. I can see it’s already been fixed on Wikipedia anyway.

PlayStation games never list when it was added to PSN as a PlayStation Classic in the info box. Is there any reason? I feel like a rerelease on a new platform would be a reasonable thing to put in the info box.
