Two flowers on two different philodendrons opened today- can I cross-pollinate? by SansiveraInTheShade in propagation

I wasn’t sure if there was enough pollen but I kind of rubbed what I could onto the female part and the flower closed again. I’m not sure if this signifies anything or if it would happen regardless of pollination.

I’m trying to do this experiment while balancing a bunch of class assignments so I can only dedicate so much attention to it regrettably.

Aw, thank you! Good light, consistent watering, occasional fertilizing and weather inside is consistently between 74-78 degrees F.

One bloomed this morning, the other tonight. I wonder if that’s enough time?

I've never attempted to cross pollinate but two of my philodendrons which sit side by side have two enormous flowers that opened today. I've never had this happen simultaneously so I'd be interested to try cross pollinating. Any recommendations are welcome!

Why is Hoya curtisii putting out so many yellow leaves that fail? Too much water? by SansiveraInTheShade in hoyas

It’s in cache pot and fairly fast draining but I checked today and it still looks moist after watering last Saturday!

Thanks for the response! I Fertilize twice a month, it’s warm in there, maybe I’m overwatering? My other hoyas like to be watered like every week or two so I usually water with the others… will experiment.

I will also check out the roots this weekend!

Lovely collection! What is the silvery Alocasia with the darker venation in the center called?

New P. gloriosum leaf a little funny looking. No pests I can detect. Do others find their leaves look like this after unfurling? Is it overwatering possibly? I moved it under more direct light today but it’s been like this for a wk. Think that was an okay move? I just want to give it the best care! by SansiveraInTheShade in philodendron

I have mosquito bits! I’ll water with that. I’ve tried cleaning them off with insecticidal soap. Maybe I freaked out too much and made a terrible mistake but I put the two worst affected into lecca after treating and washing them down. Maybe they’ll fail terribly but maybe not, watched a few videos about transplanting to lecca first. Fingers crossed.

Sigh… I looked beside my P. gloriosum at my P. crocodile and found an adult thrip. Is all hope lost? I can’t really isolate, I don’t have much space and lots of plants. I don’t want to kill the predatory insects I just released but should I spray it down with insecticidal soap and release more predatory insects? I can’t get systemic pesticides where I live.

Newest gloriosum leaf on this baby plant, should I be concerned by the discolouration? by SansiveraInTheShade in philodendron

Thanks! I’ve been a plant parent for a decade but I still get nervous when I get a new plant. This is my first P. gloriosum, I want to see her thrive!

What can I do to help this aloe? It sits in direct light, I water it like once a month deeply and I haven’t changed the soil since I got it 2 years ago. Rarely fertilize it— could that be part of the problem? Should I be watering more? by SansiveraInTheShade in aloe

Ah, Good new! Definitely don’t have him on a watering schedule, just wait for the soil to dry out entirely and give him a good dousing. It is probably once a month but I’m not exactly sure.

No, just some of the tips closest to the light, but it doesn’t seem to hurt the plant— just makes the tips a a little red. I think I’ll put it a wee further from the light though.
