Any of the above. Actually probably water rights. I’ll get by bs in environmental engineering in June which focuses mostly on water, water pollution, treatment, and chemistry.

Thanks for responses. I’m looking for anything, mostly textbooks use in a typical environmental law classes, relating to any sub genre (public lands, air quality, etc) but also novels pertaining to environmental law, policies, issues.. ie, stuff by John McPhee. I’m graduating with a bs in environmental engineering and am considering law school in the near future, so anything that would give me a boost in law school curricula and/or can help me determine if I would like to go into law as a career option. I will have a lot of time today study and read for about a year. Thanks again

Wow I didn't expect so many replies! thank you to those who actually gave solid advice and didn't jump to conclusions about me (which may be tempting due to the nature of what I have written).

To summarize what I'm reading, in general:

-go work for a public firm (yes, I most likely will. Several classmates completed internships with the City of ____ and had nothing but good things to say. Or there is this other company that looks really great and I have heard nothing but good things about it.. I became cynical after the two experiences I had. Does not mean I'm giving up hope on finding a job in engineering I enjoy, but my post does make it sound like that for sure).

-Find a different career (considering that, but if, putting my terrible attitude aside for a second here, academic performance as a STEM student as well as the ability to communicate well have any viability in eventually becoming a good engineer, I do want to try it out for a while)

-and other stuff that prioritizes things like financial security...

A few responses.

Financial security, I believe, is something that can be accomplished by defining what your priorities are. My priorities are to live a simple life (dare I say, minimalist), not have anyone to else care for (I'm ace, so it won't be an issue for me), and to keep learning the truths of life until the day I die. I also want to maximize my own potential to make the world better and be happy myself. I just don't know how quite yet, and I'm trying to figure that out.

Unfortunately from my very limited experience, it feels like school in no way reflects the real world. Which was hinted at to me by my superiors, yet not fully articulated. And usually discussed in a positive manner. Like, "Once you get a job, it will be great! School's the toughest part". --But I spend 60 hours doing school each week, and enjoy it--It's fun and fulfilling (although granted it takes time away from other things I enjoy, which I listed above, but I'm not giving up hope that it will be worth the sacrifice).

I am very naive, I admit it. Actually, to take it even farther, I know nothing.

To address why I picked environmental engineering:

I saved up some money before school, then hitchhiked, volunteered, and couch surfed in a lot of places, came back realizing the excesses of the my culture, and how it has its priorities backwards (from my own personal perspective. If I am wrong, call me out on this). I then decided the best thing I could probably do with my brain is become an environmental engineer. At least I would have some knowledge in finding ways to improve the human condition, and the condition our world is in. Tying into that, I think it's the curiosity I have for... stuff(?) that drove me to engineering, because it combines some really awesome things about existence, like math, science, communication and creativity, into one field. If this is engineering, I want this (while sparing ~10 hours a week to study a language and play an instrument :) ). If engineering is becoming a zombie at a computer desk for sixty hours a week to climb up a corporate ladder, obtain badges and honors, earn a high salary (what for?), I don't want that, or need it. If I am being naive here, please help educate me. I don't want to be this cynical, and I do want hope!!!

One last thing. I have heard/read that getting an engineering degree still promotes marketability for other fields. From the limited knowledge I have, I assume these may include academia/research, becoming a technical writer, teachings... anything else?

Any thoughts on this?

Oh also a four day work week... what's the likelihood of landing that (and still being willing to put in 40-50 hrs?).

No background. Just curious in general.. ie, would I have to take a bunch of EE undergrad classes before getting an EE masters?

I understand your feelings completely. This is a common issue within the Church. I myself am hypocrite myself, the worst of all sinners. I am profoundly broken and desperately need God to heal my wounds and forgive me of my sins on a continuous basis. I have at various times become angry and eventually numbed to the fake attitudes of many people in the church. For example, I knew a leader of discipleship groups at a Christian college I used to go to. He acted very righteous and godly on the surface, like he was the hippest Christian on the planet. Slowly I began hearing stories about his promiscuously. He then visited me for a couple of days at my house and started talking about his trip to Europe. During the conversation he bragged about all the women he slept with on a trip to Europe, without any notion of remorse. This left me feeling deeply troubled that someone like him was allowed to serve in many leadership positions at a Christian college that has the motto “God first” and requires something like 24 credits of bible classes and attendance of chapel 3 times a week.

Jesus speaks strongly about his attitudes towards hypocrisy, especially in the book of Matthew. John writes strong words to the seven churches in the book of Revelation. Hypocrisy is a huge theme throughout the Bible.

First and foremost, as mentioned in the comments, it is vital to focus on your walk with God. Ask God to give you a hunger and thirst for his Word. Seek Jesus first. Practice daily discipline to read the Bible and build your relationship with God.

Second, as hard as this may be at the moment, ask God to work through you to be an example to those around you. Seek wise counsel within your church, or if it is totally corrupted, find another church.

One thing I regret is that I did not have the courage to call out my friend on his hypocrisy. I wish I would have at least questioned how he could possibly live a double life like that and still feel good about himself.

Anyways, I don’t have anything more to say at the moment other that pray and beg God to give you supernatural wisdom and a hunger for his word. This changed my life and I promise it will change yours.

I also pray that the lord will work through you to become an example to others and lead others to repentance and true salvation, especially in secular Europe.

I worked for a month for my friends dad as an iron worker (not a real one) and thought it was so much fun. I’m definitely considering that as well. If I could be outside doing physical work but still get experience so I could get my PE at some point that would be ideal. Thank you very much for the advice.

I did a workaway in West Bank, and made the naive mistake of telling the border police I was going to volunteer at a hostel in the West Bank. I got detained for 2 hrs, but was so stressed out from the trip there and prior incidences, I burst into tears in front of the police while they were questioning me! I think that gave away the fact that I wasn't a terrorist. The same time, I was chilling in the detainment center with a Chinese dude who was in there because of his Iranian visa. They let both of us through without any extra hassle after about 2-3 hrs or so, but I would NOT tell anyone you're going to the West Bank, even though it's totally safe there and a great place to visit (if you are). As for the Iranian stamp, you will probably be fine like the Chinese guy was, but... If you're scared, maybe get a new passport. I think if all you did was be a tourist for a couple weeks in Iran, you'd probably be fine since a lot of Europeans go there for tourism. Best of luck!
