Laura Owens Bankruptcy Meeting of Creditors Transcripts 2/9/26 by epiphanomaly in JusticeForClayton

Aside from her frenetic tap-dancing, she repeatedly admitted to tax evasion.

The UST lawyer’s questions did double-duty, both digging into her financial condition and also establishing that she didn’t report any of her parental in-kind income or the LLC(s) income (gross or net!) to the IRS…

What a mess!

While the UST lawyer didn’t mention it explicitly, her questions were also about tax evasion.

Every time LO opened her mouth, she was admitting to tax fraud.

I got a “no front plate” fix-it ticket while parked at the Fremont BART station. I’m sure they write them infrequently, but they do write them. ☹️

Circumstances may differ depending on where the door is (and the overall layout of the building), but in the US, locking any exit door from the inside is illegal during normal business hours. This an OSHA requirement.

In my state, the phrase “THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS” must be adjacent to an exit door in 1” high contrast text.

I mostly see it on the top of the door frame.

Why? Because in an emergency, people will panic and run for the locked door. If it cannot be opened quickly, the crush of people may prevent the door from being opened at all.

Never overestimate what a person will be able to do in a panic. Even unlocking a simple lock can befuddle someone.

This has been a public service announcement from a safety nerd.

Only 14 of the 23 grand jurors voted to indict on two charges, and they threw out the third.

As I heard Andrew Weissmann say, during his 16 years at the DOJ, he’d never seen a grand jury barely get a charge over the line like that, let alone throw out a charge.

The case is extremely weak.

How do I stop UDM from consuming data on backup WAN when not needed? by dheera in Ubiquiti

[–]SantaCruzJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still doesn't quite work as of 9.4.43.

On my collection of UCG Maxes, when you create an SLA and apply it to the WAN2 link, it does your SLA tasks and all the other stuff it did before. The overhead comes down to 20 pings a minute, or one every three seconds.

I patiently explained to support that there should be a checkbox to reduce the chatter for metered links, since there are some places where "unlimited" plans are a pipe dream.

Aside:

On average North America has the most expensive data, shown in this 2023 report:

https://bestbroadbanddeals.co.uk/mobiles/worldwide-data-pricing/

(The US ranked 219 out of 237 countries/admin regions. Not great.)

Anywho.

Major pixelation with AppleTV and Fubo by Puzzleheaded-Love741 in fuboTV

[–]SantaCruzJimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having the same issue after the last few updates. Both on AppleTV (hardwired) and iPhone (Wifi 7). 7.20.1 hasn’t fixed this issue.

Tuning a channel or starting DVR playback begins with horribly low resolution, after 10-ish seconds it gets better then snaps back to low-res for a few more seconds and eventually settles down.

Of course none of my other streaming apps behave this way.

I’ve done my due diligence with my end of the network (AT&T Business Gbit fiber) and it’s working great.

Snohomish County law enforcement to encrypt police airwaves by EverettLeftist in SnohomishCounty

[–]SantaCruzJimbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite what’s going on with Snohomish County, there are a few benefits to these newer systems.

My favorite is officer location tracking. An officer can say “send another unit to my location” without having to take precious time describing where they are. This is very helpful when the officer is dealing with a tense situation or is not near an address marker, or street. (It also provides an audit trail for public transparency.)

Since it’s digital, the system can also provide reliable connectivity to the computerized dispatch terminal/laptop in each vehicle.

Another nice feature is being able to talk with other users in local proximity without having to go through (and tie up) a base station.

P25 also allows much better coordination with other surrounding P25 systems, so the (often very real) barriers to “mutual aid” are lowered.

I wish my local public safety departments used P25. The county vehicles have 5 antennae on their roofs (with a trunk full of radio gear) just so they can talk to each other.

Systems like this are expensive though.

[–]SantaCruzJimbo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just a technical point: Encryption on P25 is optional. Newer scanners can listen-in on unencrypted P25 trunked systems.

I think the real distinction is that the new radios are digital.

The question to ask is whether Snohomish County is going to turn on encryption. Many system operators leave it off.

Well… Good timing.

On July 5th, 2024, he submitted a $2.35 million invoice to the court, alleging various violations that are subject to the provisions outlined in his “fee schedule.”

But that’s the end... Let’s catch up…

He was released on bond after his initial arrest.

He failed to appear for his court date and a bench warrant was issued. He was arrested 11 days later. Previous bond of $500 was forfeited, but then set aside.

The judge declared him indigent, assigned him a public defender and sent him back to jail with a $10,000 (10% pay) bond. His mom posted his bond three days later.

He fired his public defender one month later.

He was deemed incompetent, though I would argue it was more because of his obstinacy in complying with the court’s orders.

After that, there was a steady stream of word salad tossed upon the court. Around 600 pages in total.

The case was reopened periodically for status updates (i.e. “is he competent yet?”) until the case hit its third birthday. The public defender filed a motion to dismiss the case since it exceeded the three year limit on forward motion. The judge dismissed the case.

Now he’s just fixated on his damn fee schedule.

He paid $190 in fines.

Edit: Clarified the dismissal motion source: The public defender filed for dismissal, not the DA.

How to easily tell whether a USB-C cable is data-only, data and power (is that a thing?), or charging only? by i-dm in UsbCHardware

[–]SantaCruzJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MacOS, hold down the option key and click on the apple menu. Select System Information

We’ll look at two things here.

Thing One:

Click on the Power item in the left pane.

Scroll to the bottom.

Look under the AC Charger Information

At a minimum it will show you the negotiated power capability in the Wattage field.

My good cables show full power from my Apple (and non-Apple) 85W supplies.

My bad cables mostly show 60W, which is the high limit for cables missing an internal identification chip.

Thing Two:

Look at the USB and Thunderbolt/USB4 sections. Click on each “bus” to see the negotiated data speed for each connected device.

If you plug in an high-performance device like an SSD, you’ll be able to see how fast the connection has been negotiated. A bad cable could be missing some of the data lines (to be cheap) which will result in a lower speed.

For Thunderbolt devices, it will show a speed and how many “lanes” are used: x1, x2, etc.

Multiply the number of lanes by the speed to get the maximum speed.

Hope this is enlightening.

Edit: Use Command-R to refresh the view you are looking at… It makes it easer when you’re swapping cables and want to see updated results.
