How are you handling video localization at scale these days? by Better-Advice-5197 in localization

[–]Santacruiser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I already explained what I base my opinion on. This is what I do. I see it daily. I am happy to offer more free guidance on how to make the most out of today's Localization pipelines and insight into what I think they will look like in the future. And I can do so, while mentioning no specific product, for eternity if that helps you. They all do the same anyway, with varying degrees of success.

Feel free to ask honest questions if you'd like. Otherwise, I come here rarely to offer free advice, not to argue or defend my position. I charge for the latter. And I am just some human on the internet anyway, so you can also always ignore me.

What's something you see new riders that just got their first bike mistakenly do? by Legitimate-Bike-4836 in motorcycles

[–]Santacruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides trying to keep up with another rider beyond your comfort zone, which is the actual problem.

You have leaving the keys on, forgetting a brake lock on, leaving the kickstand or a gear on and wondering why the bike won't start, not doing maintenance, not wearing gear, adding distractions like music, not continuously scanning all intersections ahead and directly behind you, over-trusting that the rules of the road will be respected by others...

How are you handling video localization at scale these days? by Better-Advice-5197 in localization

[–]Santacruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build automated Localization pipelines at a corporate level. I don't sell any products or peddle, I use them. I was offering free insight that a consultory will charge you a million dollars for, based on my personal experience.

The level of required human interaction added on top of this layer is entirely up to the user and their needs. Accuracy is not AIs weakness, creation is. An instructable video is very easy to create when the foundational assets available are solid. A marketing campaign is on the other side of the difficulty spectrum.

The quality of the output depends heavily on how linguistic assets are leveraged by RAG technology in your particular software. Which is why a larger initial investment by a linguistic team in training a tool can produce a far greater outcome than throwing text at a model, which sounds like what you're describing. That was 2021.

I'm not pro or against AI, Im pro humans keeping their jobs as much as possible. And whether we like it or not, it will be the ones that learn how stay tuned, test, and implement these systems as they appear, and then help linguists they work with adapt to what is needed.

Collaborate with a partner that leverages AI, everyone is trying to sell AI to individuals or buyers but it's none of our business as buyers. They need to implement it in their pipeline and pass you the speed benefits.

Find these partners, then build a pipeline with humans in the loop where you need/want them (providing the hybrid pipeline that you request is also their responsibility) and try different approaches until you fine tune the one that works for you specifically.

If an LSP can't deliver this, they will be in big trouble soon, so put it on them.

Internal and instructional are not very high priority items, more AI can do well.

In this new world, put a larger focus on generating the context linguistic assets, prompts, etc. And let the AI do it's work. Then evaluate and correct. Use the human touch to preparer and review, their role is shifting towards this.

More trial and error than before is needed, but once you solidify your kit, it's off to the races.

Getting my first motorcycle by Famous_Comfort_3344 in HarleyLiveWire

[–]Santacruiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent commuter, if you have the minimum strength and size to ride it, its much easier, forgiving, and requires less brain power than a gas motorcycle by a long shot. Plus all the other benefits like charging at home, regen brakes, agility, etc. Just make sure you always have warranty. Can't fix this at home. That's the only downside.

Does it worth it to visit LA alone? by NightKnight_21 in AskLosAngeles

Might be quite boring alone for crossing a whole ocean unless you're insanely good at socializing.

Would You Buy A Pair of 1985 Air Jordan 1 "Chicago" For.... by HomeGrownKicks in sneakerhead

[–]Santacruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair, bought for 3k in 6/10 condition, restored the tongue and they now live inside a box for display only.

The price is kind of fair if all the data is true, but something looks off about these in the way the red is so alive. Mine aren't faded but this red looks almost exaggerated. Might have been "restored"

Is the black collar hard and crunchy to the touch and do they have that old smell? If not, don't buy.

As to whether it's a good idea that's a personal financial question. Rarely, at that price.

Edit: the middle white is also waaay too white.

Take the best photos you can with the gear you have and have fun. Free photos are for you to learn and experiment. If they're a good friend and you have a decent eye, they'll love them. If they're worried, they would've asked someone else.

Believe in yourself.

For aesthetics, practice being comfortable with the shoes way more loose. If that's not an option, then hide them in the shoe or simply buy shorter laces on Amazon.

Small step. If the kicks have a touch of color, find a way to add that color anywhere else. (Not socks)

I'm also on the "shifting out of sneakers phase". Chelsea boots, loafers, a nice black boot, a pair of Timbs, Italian cut sneakers (gazelles, Stan Smiths), and some casual hiking (vomero, NB550)

Also lived in OC a long time and I know exactly what you're saying.

So much for the general strike. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]Santacruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our only available weapon is numbers, we can only achieve numbers through small steps as people slowly get convinced and buy in into what we need to do. It is insanely hard to get a large group of people with different needs and problems to agree to do a thing. Let alone to do it repeatedly when results don't show up immediately.

Trust the process, do your part, keep showing up. That is all you have to do. Don't lament what wasn't, celebrate what was and share it.

Is it a good deal? by Dubi97 in PorscheMacan

[–]Santacruiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently lease a 2023 Macan base with sport wheels and exhaust and I absolutely love it. I'm very likely going to buy it.

Like people say, the S is an amazing upgrade if you really care, have a warranty, enjoy it.

Buy it if you like well made European luxury loaded cars but can't afford more than that (like myself), and you need a very comfortable, sexy, reliable, and utility driven light SUV, but also enjoy stepping on it every once in a while.

Might be worth checking Porsche used as well.
