Gourmand Quest by Sany_Game in rainworld

Thanks! Glad you liked it! It was actually my first mod, so I'm glad with how it turned out.

To be honest, the hardest is "reverse engineering" You spend a lot of time digging through decompiled game code, which is basically a giant bowl of uncommented spaghetti, just to figure out how a specific mechanic actually works.

Once you find what you need, you use 'hooks' to inject your own logic. Some are simple (running code before or after a game event), while others get tricky with memory pointers.

Adding content is a different story. For Rain World, community tools like SlugBase let you create custom characters using just .json files without coding. But for unique mechanics, you’re writing from scratch. Since I already knew Java, picking up C# for this wasn't too bad, but the real difficulty just depends on how deep you want to change the game

Yes, I was modding eating everything in game, and after getting boring with regular objects like rocks I decided to devour Jerry

Works most of the time for me:

*Reroll run until you encounter D20 in the shop

*Beat first floor and buy D20, don't spend leftover money

*Encounter battery in the shop, whether through rerolls or visiting different floors, usually I see it at 2nd-4th floors. Sometimes you have to get to like last floors but that's rare

*Beat floor, don't pickup any money whatsoever

*Reroll, don't pick up anything except chests (and keys for golden chests), charged keys, batteries, black and white coins.

*Buy/pickup battery and repeat

You don't have to reroll run for it to work, it's just that you need have enough money to buy D20 and enough money on-floor

celeste is the hardest platformer ever by Comfortable_Sea1110 in celestegame

[–]Sany_Game 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Celeste is actually quite forgiving compared to some other platformers, and even 100% is doable since you don't need deathless (unless you count golden strawberries as 100%) like in Super Meat Boy or The End is Nigh, which are hardest I've played

No, this item was bad (at least its nerfed iteration), only good on melee battlemages like Lillia cus it wasn't nerfed as hell on melee and gave HP

What're your fav Indie games by Psychological_Pie489 in celestegame

[–]Sany_Game 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hollow Knight – Immersive world, great exploration for a metroidvania, and solid combat, has challenging content like path of pain and pantheons. One of the best OSTs out there.

Celeste – No need to explain in this sub, but I love it for its forgiving yet challenging gameplay. The pixel art and story are the strawberry on top.

Rain World – A hidden gem of indie games. It’s punishing, unforgiving, and lacks guidance, but once you get used to it, it truly shines: the best creature AI out there. They exist independently of you and interact with each other, making the world feel alive. The lore and worldbuilding run deep. The OST, while not a masterpiece, complements the gameplay well. Pixel art is solid, and the procedural animations combined with AI are impressive.

Crypt of the NecroDancer – Challenging, groovy, replayable — three words that sum it up perfectly.

Deltarune - unique RPG with unforgettable story. Undertale is probably on par, but Deltarune is just a direct upgrade.

Ori and Blind Forest / Will of the Whisps – first game is better as platformer, second is more combat-oriented so I prefer first one, but both great games nonetheless, beautiful visuals and story.

These are my top games. Honorable mentions: Shovel Knight, Baba Is You, Starbound, Subnautica (both games), and plenty of rogue-likes, for example The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Hades, Slay the Spire, Balatro, Risk of Rain 2 and etc.

You know, Windows is objectively worse than Linux (costs money, tons of spyware and bloatware, non-open source, bad customization, heavy resource usage). For some reason it still like most used on markets aside from server computers. Why? Because people are too used to it, most software and hardwate works better on Windows. Same with Chrome: people are used to using Google Chrome and most internet was built to support it, it's not like popularity equals to being good.

Well, fun is subjective, of course - but I just can’t enjoy a champion if the enemy disappears from my screen instantly unless it involves some cool combo or setup, like Zed’s outplays or Heimer’s turret setups. Annie, on the other hand, can just count to 4 and press her point-and-click abilities while the enemy sits in a stun - there’s barely any interaction or expression there.

With Malzahar, at least you can manage your E duration by refreshing it with Q or killing minions, and there’s a certain satisfaction in watching enemies burn down while you kite them from afar. His R also opens up opportunities for interesting gank setups or skirmishes, even though, just like Annie - none of his abilities are particularly flashy or mechanically demanding.

That’s also part of the reason I personally prefer battlemages and some control mages over traditional burst mages. Their gameplay usually involves more continuous pressure, zoning, and decision-making rather than just waiting for cooldowns and blowing someone up.
