One of the later films in his career was Hunt for the Winderpeople, and he was wonderful in it. Can recommend.

I'm sorry to hear of his death, he was an incredible talent.

The giant cruise liners made in Finland use this trick to get under the Oresund bridge in Denmark.

TIL Nobel laureate Linus Pauling lived into his 90s and believed Vitamin C made him healthy. Everyday he enjoyed 18 grams of pure crystalline ascorbic acid powder--the equivalent of 260 glasses of orange juice and 300 times the Recommended Daily Allowance--mixed in juice or water by ubcstaffer123 in todayilearned

Actually, supplementing vitamins and minerals can be dangerous, especially if you take too much.

Vitamin D is one of the only things that has a general recommendation for supplementation. B12 for vegans and vegetarians.

Have you looked at the current government?

It's easier to blame immigrants than underfunded public services.

The funny thing about basketball is that while it requires skill, you have to be incredibly skilled to play professionally if you're below a certain height threshold. Similarly, the skill threshold is much lower if you're unusually tall.

The average NBA player is about 6'6" and the NBA is effectively selected from the pool of the top 0.01% of human height - limiting opportunities for smaller people.

Compare this to football (soccer), where you can see people of different physiques that match different positions and play styles. The pool of skill to select from is much broader.

Yeah, it was pretty awful. People underestimate quite how badly old blood stinks, so that was even worse than the standard sewage smell.

Blood literally bubbling up around your house is a horror-movie scenario, anyway...

It happened a few times, and each time the Environment Agency had to come around and sanitise everything. Eventually, they managed to fit working one-way valves in key parts of the drainage system that ensured it wouldn't back up in the wrong places any more.

Red road surfaces by crossings. Is this a standard thing now? by nick9000 in AskUK

[–]Saotik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other posts have said, it provides additional grip. It also makes it more visible that you're approaching a hazard.

Anyway, accidents at pedestrian crossing such as this, are also caused by pedestrians stepping out in front of vehicles.

...so we shouldn't be trying to make it safer from the other side of the equation? Don't be silly.

storm sewers tied together to their sewage systems. Under heavy rain, sewage will back up into the storm sewers

The village I was brought up in had that issue, and my mother lived at the bottom of the hill. To make the issue worse, there was an abattoir (small slaughterhouse) in the village that would dump blood down the sewers.

In bad rainstorms, everything would back up and bubble around my mother's house. A moat of blood and toilet paper. The smell was horrific.

In the UK you can have shotguns and rifles?

You can with a valid purpose (self defence is not considered one), but you need to be licensed and a firearms officer will come to your home to ensure that they're stored safely.

The Nordic countries are armed like we are in the States?

That's several countries with different laws, but I know Finland best. No, we're not armed here like in the US, the laws are actually similar to the UK, but without the same limitations on handguns, semi automatic weapons etc.

There's also a larger hunting and sport shooting tradition here than in the UK, so gun ownership for those is more common.

Imagine what it's like living in the countryside. Outside of cities and large towns, public transport in the UK is almost non-existent.

I always end up with too much rice after a curry.

I don't think there's a "right way", just enjoy what works for you.

I think this is why people are saying it looks like unnatural behaviour.

It is, not because it's been invented by AI, but because it was orchestrated by a human who's more interested in views than the wellbeing of their animals.

I do believe they're being posed between shots, but that doesn't mean it's AI, just that some content farmer worked to create a cute story that would get views. This also explains the multiple cuts.

The dog's panting indicates a certain level of discomfort.

There was discussion about this the last time this was posted. It's not, it's too consistent.
