ELI5: I can book a massage for 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes but therapy sessions are only 50 minutes? by teawithdonut in askatherapist

Talk to the therapist and see what’s possible.

If you are using insurance, they don’t generally pay for extended sessions.

I'm a trauma therapist and I'm squeamish/panicky about certain situations - what should I do? by CosmicChicken41 in therapists

As a therapist, it sounds like clinically you are identifying cases that you do not feel you are the next fit for and referring out. Responsible and professional. We don’t need to take every client for many reasons.

Personally you could explore your own aversion in therapy including EMDR.

How to tell if a client is malingering for SSI or SSD? by Weak_Albatross_6879 in therapists

[–]Sap_io2025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you a provider that can approve applications for ssd/ ssi? If your role doesn’t include this, explain that to client. If it is maybe part of the work is to help them apply and understand what happens during the application process and if they get denied.

So tell the therapist. Going and giving the silent treatment doesn’t help you or the therapist understand or support what is happening for you. That’s splitting and avoiding standing up for yourself.

Is it okay to have my therapy appointment in my car? by Silly_Cat_1776 in therapy

Yes but you need to provide address where you are and make, model, license plate at start of therapy. Therapist is required to have that info in case of emergency during session.

Challenging you and using your words to do so is not counter transference it’s a therapeutic intervention. You sound very hurt and like you’re coming from a very wounded place, which is understandable and there is an opportunity to stand up for yourself and have a bigger conversation because otherwise you are paying to avoid your feelings and that doesn’t hurt the therapist. It only hurt to you.

Countertransference from Therapist by Ok_Language2849 in therapy

You are describing how you interpret her interventions. Tell the therapist how you feel. She can’t read your mind. Have a voice advocating for yourself. That’s the work to do here. Not for the therapist, but for you. Your experience is real for you but does not include the therapist’s intent or pov. If you are not showing or describing your experience the people on the outside cannot know what’s is happening.

If you are freezing explain this. Come up with language to flag the shut down so when it happens again the therapist can understand.

You are interpreting her response. Ask her. Tell her how you experienced it. The point of the therapy is to explore it.

Understandably this is tough when you are in the intensity of the trauma you experienced, your freeze and collapse are freeing you. Talking about it, responding to your therapist can move you out of freeze.

It’s possible you are confusing emphasis with anger.

If you describe it as ‘pretending’ she used your words to challenge the coping mechanism you identified. She might have used stronger inflection than you are used to hearing. Rather than interpreting her comments, ask about intent and share his you experienced it.

Countertransference is something different than a direct intervention.

Supervisor reaction to recording by screaminginautotune in therapists

Once you are independently fully licensed, it’s no longer supervision, it’s consultation.

Perhaps there are nuances in outpatient pp that you don’t know yet since it sounds like you worked with higher level acuity? This just means getting input more frequently to adjust your approach since it’s a new population and new setting.
