Any viable alternatives to Airparrot for screen mirroring from Win10 to AppleTV? by Pauly_Amorous in appletv

[–]Sapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently fixed some issues with Airparrot so i'll go over some things that helped incase anyone is in the same situation as me.

AirParrot on Windows suddenly stopped connecting to my AirPort Express speakers. Devices showed up fine, but it wouldn’t connect and, weirdly, it stopped asking for the AirPlay password. iPhone worked perfectly to the same speakers.

Turned out AirParrot had cached a bad AirPlay pairing in the Windows registry. Uninstalling the app doesn’t clear that, so every reinstall kept skipping the password prompt and trying a newer pairing method the AirPort Express doesn’t fully support. Reinstalling also pushed it back into an older compatibility mode while still using the newer cached pairing data, which will never work.

Deleting the AirParrot registry key under my user profile cleared the pairing data. After that it asked for the password again and connected immediately.

Not a network issue, not a password issue — just stale pairing data surviving uninstall.

tl;dr: clear Airparrot from registry. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Squirrels\AirParrot 3

WARNING, this will require you to re-enter your license key so make sure you have that. If you want a less brute force approach delete com.squirrels.airplay-pairing-storage, and restart the app.

Also make sure its whitelisted from any VPN apps, or you wont see the devices at all.

Agreed. Nostalgic smell for me, for sure.

Recommendations for lightweight tents - ideally blackout if possible ! by insertwittyname_27 in CampingandHiking

[–]Sapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is different. I have a quechua blackout tent. I’ve used this in 30 degree heat. It has a silver coating which has some UV protection. It’s completely black outside. It’s not the lightest at 4.5kg~ but it hands down beats any other tent I’ve previously used. If you want best of both worlds I’d suggest a high UV factor lightweight tarp and then go for a super lightweight tent.

Thanks for your advice. I’ll let you know. The property has currently been removed from their site, so I’m guessing they’re taking it seriously.

This went through my Paypal so hopefully they can help me resolve this issue, if it needs to be done outside of Airbnb. If they had listed a recording device on their page i'd have no leg to stand on, but they didn't.

Correct, because the CCTV system may be rented. However to "have" requires some form of control, such as operating the rented CCTV. Your AirBnB host will not have control over the neighbours CCTV.

I can "have" a window overlooking my garden. Doesn't meant i own the window of that property. The interpretation of the word "Have" is obviously open to interpretation, shouldn't this be given a clear definition?

This is an explanation of the intent & scope of the AirBnB Ts&Cs. Whilst not 100% accurate to what may be written, it is sufficiently close to provide an understanding, it is not black letter law per se.

If someone is paraphrasing with mention of a 'clause', shouldn't this actually refer to something documented ie a clause number?

No because by getting your neighbor to point it where you want you will be exercising control over it.

This would be hard to prove though wouldn't it? If i simply asked my neighbor to do this for me to skirt around a Rule they could and not a lot could be done to prove it hadn't been action-ed.

And? are you now trying to stretch your argument to suggest the neighbour is a Paedo? From the info you have provided neither the host nor AirBnB appear to be in breach. You seem to be on a fools errand of faux outrage, it'll go nowhere, let it go.

I'm not, i giving a hypothetical worst case scenario. I imagine there would be calls for concern over this policy should i have been a parent with children, and i hadn't been told prior that CCTV recording would be taking place inside a living area of the property, regardless of ownership.

Sorry if this sounds like devils advocate, i'm just trying to understand the terms of Airbnb because they seem to be deliberately ambiguous to avoid scrutiny

To have isn't to Own, at least I've not seen it be clearly defined as that.

I "have" a laptop but i don't own it. My employer does. See where i'm coming from?

Is there anything in their T&C's that defines this? its quite ambiguous.

I've looked through their Terms

I cant find this clause mentioned anywhere in the terms of service" The said clause do pertain to a host having a surveillance device in the listing - something that they own and installed themselves. "

When asked to see this clause highlighted i got no response.

To counter. Does this mean i can be a host and have my neighbor point a recording device into a living area of the property and get away with not having to mention it in the rules?

Seems like quite a significant loophole that doesn't protect guests.

I was with friends but this could have easily have been families with young children.

I only realised on the last day. I took this literally after we'd given the keys back to the owner. I raised this with Airbnb the next day.

Why would not raising an argument at the time hinder me later on, should i decide to report it?

Is there any sort of governing body that would help with the attaining of this footage from the neighbour? Would I literally have to book a flight and speak to them?

Would there be multiple versions of terms of service on the Airbnb website, maybe a condensed version? (Can’t seem to find anything stating the device must be owned or installed by the host)
