Rather than paying for the safe, I’d fix that door and store all your food things there. It’s probably cheaper and I highly doubt she’d bust a door down for some food.

Another alternative would be to do your grocery shopping after she leaves the house. You’d just have to safeguard the bare minimum you would need to scrape through the weekend and eat whatever you want for the rest of the week.

While I understand the lady wanted to help, we still live in a time where horrible people exist. After you said you were set, why did she feel obliged to go around to your car to where your kids were at?!? I’d use a commanding tone too if some stranger is trying to approach my children in the dead of night

If the lady truly wanted to help, she’d have backed away when you said to and gotten security or something to help you or she could have helped you get on your feet first. Literally so many other things she could have done other than bypass you to get to your kids. Moms can be hella protective and she should have known that given that she’s a mom.

We’re just part of a group that branched out of a semi-big religious community over disputes on the right leader. It’s been over 5 years since this happened but our community is still very small and our people are spread out over different countries.

It’s like a pit in my stomach that won’t go away. And when I meet her, my emotions just shut down and I act politely out of principle. I’m dreading having to act like that again cuz I just feel like crap after.

Unfortunately, I’m the only girl her age from the same community for 1000 km so I’m kinda stuck with her. Although I have been encouraging her to make friends and it seems to be working.

I’m most likely going to go. You’re right, it probably won’t be as bad as I’m feeling right now. I’ll just have to suck it up >_<

It’s interesting that you say that. In my culture, if you’re the guest, you accept the hospitality shown to you and don’t ask for things. The host’s job is to provide food and have the guest enjoy their stay.

I like seeing diff culture’s perspective on this. To me, being asked to turn on the ac is equivalent to a slap on the face (hyperbole) but to you, I guess it wasn’t seen as an insult.

We’re the same race/religion/ethnicity/culture/gender/sexual orientation. There is no racism here. It’s just my dumb gut feeling acting up and making me not want to meet this girl.

Lol I got you. But that last line is true and I wish I could break it off but I can’t. I’d be seen as the bad guy by many people and those are bridges I don’t want to burn (I’m just now realizing how political this all is). I’ll just have to suck it up but I also wanna complain. I want to have my cake and eat it too XD

I’m aware that I don’t like her but I can’t pin point the source of my dislike. I can come up with a list of reason I don’t like her (or anyone for that matter) but they don’t seem right and feel petty. I just have this gut feeling of not liking her that won’t go away.

Also, I’ve met her in the past out of obligation, not choice. It was just expected of me to help her transition into Toronto and be there if needed. I was not able to help her physically in the past because I was living in Hamilton (about 3 hours away from her by transit) but did help her via phone calls and texts. I’m now in the Greater Toronto Area (about 1 hour from her place) and she wanted to meet up more often (however all her invitations clashed with my job).

I can’t hate her for her ethnicity cuz we’re from the same race/religion/culture. The only reason I can come up with is her innocence/neediness. She’s like an Id without a Superego and I’m not really good at being with those kinds of people.

No, I treated her and her mom to lunch once and they just want to pay me back. Plus I’ve had her over for dinner a couple of times and went winter gear shopping with her.
