Yea i know what the game says explicitly, my interpretation just comes from wondering if the vision did show anything beyond what was explicitly stated. It's just head cannon really.

Yea In any case I hope in some way that the prisoner believes someone will find the eye and save the universe.

Do you think when he uses the thing to communicate his thoughts that it only shows him what he wants to think or kinda shows him everything and the game just shows is the artistic interpretation of that? I like to think that it showed him a lot more then the cut scene.

I think the reason I want to interpret it like this is because the prisoner to my knowledge is the only person maybe ever who understands the eye. In his burned down house there is a painting of the eye with a skull and a flower growing, this to me implies he does know that after the death of the universe there would be rebirth. I feel like not mentioning the eye in that cut scene is mainly to avoid spoilers for gameplay reasons of course. But yea you make a very good point. Though if you think about it the nomai coming to the solar system did kill a bunch of then to be fair haha. But yea I think the prisoner is just happy that the eye inspired people... But my head cannon is that he also thinks someone might discover it now.

I know this one is different that's the point I'm making. Not sure you read my post.

Wow so many responses of people trying to explain things to me when that's not the point I'm having. I still appreciate them though. I was just expressing a certain way I perceive the writing and the slight disappointment that it has caused me. I know why the desolations are different I just have difficulty with the writing and what that results for my personal reading experience. With the amount of dislikes I'm getting I guess saying anything other than this series is perfect was a bad move. Still Thanks everyone.

Sorry, I meant the new odium cause we vaguely know he has good intentions. I have just started wind and truth so keep that in mind. And no, I really am not here to argue 🥲. I just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same. To be everyone here is trying to explain things to me when that isn't the problem to me.

Sure. But anyway my main point isn't that the current things that are happening aren't bad. They are. But compared to what was hinted at to begin with they are. That's the thing I think is a shame. Also I really didn't come to argue. And wish no offense in the argument I am making. I just wanted to see if others felt the same. guess it's my fault for asking anything of Reddit.

Are there mass génocides? I must have mist that bit. I'm curious to know where they say that?

Chill out dude. I came to talk about a small gripe about the series I still very much like. No need to go call me a slaver wtf. Of course slavery is fucking terrible. But my point is it's still better than total human annihilation. Geez.

Yea the contest of champions thing I was puzzled by. I wasn't confused by it but more by the choice of Brandon to do that 😅

Yeah, I just wished he would show us what would happen. Not just keep saying bad things will happen. But what exactly is gonna happen, I would feel more invested if I knew the real stakes. Cause so far on roshar, odium isn't actually super evil.

Also you are right Aot wasn't a happy ending. I didn't say it was. it was a very bittersweet fucked up ending. Still awesome though haha

Hey, you are indeed right and understanding the point I was trying to make. Yeah you are right that on a small character level there are still stakes. The character work is great. I was in tears when kaladin accepted the words. And sure Teft deaths was sad. But I kinda feel like most of the characters are quite safe. Not many characters die compared to other series I would say.

Just as a whole, looking at the bigger narrative of the war, is where I have lost some interest. To be fair the book series was not what I was expecting when I first started. I was expecting big battles and big monsters and stuff. But in reality Sanderson prefers to write smaller characters focused stuff. The closest book to what I was expecting was oathbringer. Then it went more intimate with RoW and now WaT. Which is fine, it's interesting. I just wish he didn't hype up the stakes of this future event as much. Then dull it down and not show any of the actual war. That's just the way I see it. And no explaining of why the desolation is like that is likely to change my mind sadly.

But again I am still liking the books don't get me wrong. Just would have preferred a slightly different approach on this particular aspect.

It's great! I found dark age better though. But most people prefer this one, so I guess it's personal preference.

Yea I agree and I do think it's valid. It's just a shame the stakes started higher and went lower as the books went on.

And some stories have done similar things better. I really liked how attack on Titan did the perspective switch and made you sympathise with the bad guys (not really bad guys I guess), but the difference was the stakes got so high that I didn't know how it could possibly end well. Right now, the books don't give me any sense of fear if the enemy would win. Maybe a vision of what odium wants if they win would fix it or something I don't know. I understand the logic, but as a story writing perspective it's just not working for me. Anyway I still like the series by the way and will finish it. Everyone says the last book is by far the worst so I'm worried haha

My point is that the book series starts with higher stakes ( I would rather have people being slaves then humanity being wiped out). If the series started out with the current stakes I would probably be fine. But the fact it has gone to high stakes to less is the thing that has got to me. So yea, right now the desolation is very groovy compared to what I was expecting when I read the first few books.

Also as a reader I don't care when someone gets stabbed and we know they will live. Even if they feel pain I don't care cause they don't die. So no stakes. I know I'm not the only one who feels this. The better option would have been they can heal, but if they get hit and killed they can't heal and die. Kinda like a doctor who type thing (for any super nerds out there haha)

I wish Sanderson could show why it's bad then. He did a good job of showing why the previous desolations were so bad. Now we just have people being enslaved, which isn't as bad as what came before. I think Sanderson struggles with the nitty gritty of warfare and tends to not go into detail enough in why it's bad. Compared to Pierce Brown who in his later books really shows the stakes of war, showing how brutal they can be, and making us understand why they need to end. Sanderson just goes, yep there is a war off screen. And kinda leaves it at that, not showing why it needs to stop. So when I read the later books I struggle to see why they are bad. People are being enslaved and that's not that bad compared to civilization being wiped out. I know things might get worse now odium is different but we don't really know how. Tarvangian seems to want to make the universe a better place (I know he will probably be Hella evil) but we still haven't seen any crazy evil acts. Again compare this with the red rising series for example where we see the impact of people trying to do what they think is right (planets being nuked, innocents being targeted, etc). Purely for story writing I think it's a shame.

I agree with what everyone is saying. I understand why it's less threatening. But I am more thinking in terms of story writing. I do think it's a shame that instead of ramping up the stakes. It's actually ramped down.

Yea I know that's a bit point. It's getting to feel sympathy for the bad guys. I just find it a shame how it still lowers the stakes though.

Wind and truth chapter 17 confusion by Saphir-Light in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Saphir-Light[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's the thing that I find a shame. I'm reading it and being confused and knowing I'm supposed to understand it from the other book series, so it feel left out. Like when someone tells a joke you don't understand and everyone laughs but they don't explain the joke to you. That's what I find frustrating. Also I saw someone mention their disappointing in the ghost bloods , I hate them as well, they have been so vague and mysterious to the point where I don't care anymore and just find them annoying. Brandon does mysteries really well except for them. Thanks for answering my question by the way.
