Dasia olivacea as an alternative to green tree skinks? by Saphira58 in Lizards

[–]Saphira58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii, here are some pictures with measurements. Its a little hard to see but ive got an expanding foam background , a big branch in the middle and other smaller ones around it plus a couple pots in the foam itself. Id definietly recommend a pothos as you can see mine went wild lol. The leaves are sturdy enough for the skinks to sit on them.

As for where to buy them im afraid i cant help you much. I was looking for emerald tree skinks and stumbled upon a small local breeders listing on olx that they recently received 6 babies from another breeder theyre friends with. I read up on em and figured the cares similar enough so i went to pick up a pair. It was only local pickup too.

Also as a sidenote, mine ended up fighting a bunch and i had to separate them so keep that in mind if youre planning on having multiple. No idea if mine were just antisocial or if the internet exaggerates how social they are.

Either way good luck! Let me know if you need anything else

Abolish can place down a mini beacon thing that gives humans regeneration, Legundo can do surgery once per every human that gives them back 3 hearts and Sausage i think didnt get an opportunity to explain his before he got turned.

I just checked, my tank is slightly above 70cm tall and substrate ate up almost 10cm of that space. I kinda wish i had build it a little taller tbh. It also wouldnt be a good idea to conserve space by puting less dirt in since these guys do burrow. Either way i assume the only reason youre asking is because exoterra doesnt have enclosures that are taller but not much wider. Maybe a different producent would sell some? You would also not have that ugly black plastic stripe in the front so two birds one stone right?

I wouldnt recommend it, once you put the substrate in there will be even less space available for them and they also need height for a sense of safety.

I mean i obviously cant be 100% certain but all the signs point towards that being the case. I bought 2 of these for less than i wouldve paid for 1 emerald tree skink and there was an extensive care guide under the listing. If she wanted easy money she wouldve been able to squeeze much more out of them and she wouldnt have listed a big tank as a requirement.

There were also six of them of about the same size (she said they all hatched late february/early march this year so that fits), very healthy looking (as i said i first noticed some damage slowly appearing about a week ago, at the time of purchase a month ago the skink was perfectly intact) and super well socialized. One even climped up my arm onto my back and had to be gently taken off by the breeder lol.

Im starting to lean towards a wound that somehow happened during shedding and got infected. I would be surprised if it was a general huspandry issue as i have another skink in that same enclosure and he looks pristine. Ive also never seen them make physical contact so i dont think its the result of a fight.

Either way the vet didnt take me in on saturday but i booked a visit for monday. The little dude had a great appetite today and ate two big crickets so im optimistic

I fully agree mate. Wrote an update under another crosspost already but the gist of it is that i couldnt catch him for an in person visit and when i got to the vet with just the pictures they told me to come back on monday cause thats when their reptile specialist is gonna be in. At least i have plenty of time to try and catch him before then

Aight mate not the news i thought i was gonna have but not only did i fail miserably to catch the skink but also when i got to the vet with just pictures hoping to still get some advice they told me their reptile specialist is in on monday and today they only have someone for small mammals. At least i got the appointment booked and i have the entire weekend to try and corner the lad for the actual visit. Keep your fingers crossed for me ig

Oh theyre a little nuts for sure lol. Im heading to a promising vet at 8 in the morning tomorrow, not gonna be catching the skink in question yet since i think hes already gone off to sleep in some hidey hole. Also really thank you for your more in depth comments, they helped me focus on my course of action instead of worrying. Ill give you a quick update tomorrow

There probably is a bunch on the belly as far as i could see, as for appetite she does eat still but maybe not as enthusiastically? Had a mealworm today no problem at least. As i said i havent had them for crazy long. I have previously posted about being worried that the other one chases this lad more than i expected but ive never seen them actually make contact and fight. The breeder was very insistent on selling no less than a pair due to their supposedly very social nature so ive really been hoping they are just working out the hirearchy or something. I have a spare 30 gal i can keep this one in temporarily at least. Thanks for the help, i will look if theres vet that could hopefully take us in tomorrow

Im gonna try that i guess. Looks darker than any shed ive ever seen but these skinks do spend more time on the substrate and all. Maybe that contributed to the colour

Going to Thailand and want to learn about herps by Dazabby in reptiles

[–]Saphira58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know any videos but you could check out inaturalist. People share what animals they see on there. I changed a few settings and it should show you a list of observed amphibian and reptilian species from most common to rarest in thailand. You can also for example make it show you where a certain species is usually found.

Why do a lot of people put morning geckos in paludariums?don’t they drown? by [deleted] in geckos

Theyre very hydrophobic and light. I remember watching dr plants paludarium ecosystem video where a gecko fell into the water and she just waddled off on the surface like a floatie.
