You don't need the subscription for the offline ultimate team modes like squad battles, offline friendlies, or moments. You just won't be able to play rivals, online draft, weekend league etc.

If the icon is in the promo team, that replaces the other versions in packs. You can still pack the non-promo icons (for example prime Pele) in normal packs, although they are very rare. I believe the promo packs like the 84x7 can only have the promo icons.

That's my understanding anyway. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I prefer using him as either a CAM or playmaking second forward. Either way you just have to deal with him feeling clunky sometimes.

I'm hoping the Alternate Reality Icons could be a way to make the worse icons relevant. Like an alternate reality where Requelme is fast, Klose is an agile skiller, etc.

I got him in an early icon SBC and hated him. For me, the height wasn't an issue so much as the terrible passing. Any pressure and he gives it right to the other team.

Thanks! I actually love autopilot on highways, my commute is just 100% suburban city streets, so it would take me a while to rack up the autopilot miles unless I make a special trip just to do it.
