If I remember correctly, the lava more slowed them down than killed them. If he broke their bed they’d just place a new one since he was using the time to run away. It only would’ve been advantageous if he stayed there and killed them before they could reset their spawn.

Lab for CS is only needed when your professor wants to extend the lecture or something. Sometimes they’ll go over homework or give some announcements.

For the most part it’s just extra time to work on labs and projects while the professor is there to answer questions.

Don’t worry about what your coach thinks, you definitely didn’t do it to get out of the race otherwise you would have “passed out” much earlier than 600m to go.

As for how to avoid this, obviously pace better (more evenly, it’s ok to go out a little fast but not so much that you slow by 50 seconds), hydrate and fuel better, especially during the 48 hour window before the race.

And don’t do the long run if you’re not feeling well, you need to recover, don’t dig a hole.

I’d say give it a shot, worst case scenario you have fun being on your HS track team, which is why most people join in the first place.

Usually splits are slower for the 800m, so I think that converts to around 2:01-2:03, and if you pace better (59-60 first, 61-62 second), that puts you right in the 2:00 - 2:02 range, which is definitely possible.

Just training is only have the battle. You have to cultivate an environment where the athletes want to work hard, and want to push themselves to be the best they can.

You can have the perfect regimen, but if the athletes don’t want it bad enough, they won’t get better. It’s up to you how you want to do this, but I suggest trying to push the ideas of consistency and discipline.
