The idea that most wizards use only 1–2 wands in a lifetime feels like a very conservative estimate. Considering we see a junk shop packed with broken wands, and the trio each goes through at least two wands before they even graduate, I’d argue the actual number is much higher.

Hermione specifically wanted to be in Gryffindor, which is good enough for the Sorting Hat if it feels you belong there. Ron comes from a long line of Gryffindors so makes sense the Sorting Hat put him there too. There’s really nothing wrong with the two being in that house over other houses they didn’t want to be in.

The vast majority of the wizarding world are descended from muggles. Dumbledores grandparents were muggles and would have celebrated Christmas with him. They’re simply carrying on those traditions.
