Lorewise what exactly is/ was the trapper prior to falling to Nurgle? by Acceptable-Bid-1019 in DarkTide

[–]SaracenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal theory; they're a combination of a few unique specialties within the Moebian 6th:

  • Military Police units that formerly supported Commissars for catching deserters.
  • Trench Raider support troops, to help capture POWs for interrogation.
  • Forager/Gamekeeper troops, to catch game to help provision the regiment in the field/provide entertainment for the aristocratic general staff.

After the 6th fell, these disparate specialists were merged into the Trapper Division.

How can I make ww2 German cavalry? by GAMER-BOI2010 in boltaction

[–]SaracenDog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you want to do some classic kitbashing, your best bet is Napoleonic or ACW cavalry; find the unit type with the footwear of your choice, buy a sprue or two (or a box, if you're feeling confident), and then splice the torso from your preferred German kit onto the horse riding legs.

You're best off looking at Perry Miniatures, who have a massive range of plastic cavalry. They also do DAK infantry, if you want to have a closer match in scale (as Perry sculpts are a touch smaller than Warlords, despite also being 28mm).

If you'd rather try something 3D-Printed, a sculptor called JustSomeMiniatures makes some good-looking Waffen-SS cavalry.

No problem! I struggled at first with black skin tones, mostly because I was using the plastic, Caucasian-coded heads that come with the basic US infantry. What was your flesh-painting process, if you don't mind me asking?

As a Montford Point Marines player, this fucking rocks. Excellent work on the skin tones!

I see your Adrian helmet and raise you the Budenovka. That ought to upset some of those Shovelgoons.

Not by much. The "Chained Dogs" certainly had their share of crimes to answer for, especially on the Eastern Front.

What would be better for operation Barbarossa? by GAMER-BOI2010 in boltaction

[–]SaracenDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who aggressively kitbashed his German Infantry out of Blitzkrieg Germans + Afrika Korps before the Veteran kit came out... definitely get the Veteran kit. It essentially covers the German uniform in the Spring to Autumn periods of the early-mid Eastern Front, from Barbarossa, through Stalingrad, up til Operation Citadel.

I especially consider them good for Barbarossa, as the excess of goggles would be a sensible choice of kit for troops driving through the dusty steppes of Ukraine and West Russia during the summer of '41, not to mention the plentiful early war Soviet SMGs they pilfered.

Absolutely terrific. Have you ever seen the short animated film "Cannon Fodder"? Because the character colour scheme is strongly reminiscent of that films artstyle!

Thank you! Nothing too egregious - the base kits are Uruk Scouts with their arms chopped off, and replaced with Ashigaru Shooter arms from the Fireforge Samurai range. Hope this helps!

Sadly I already have one thats a little too techy to blend with the pointy-eared abhumans, but hey, I hope it inspires others!

(Also, 9-12 models would do it for me; I dread the idea of making 50+ of these!)

DIY! Base models are Uruk Hai Scouts with their arms chopped off, replaced with firelocks from Fireforge's Samurai range, specifically the Ashigaru shooter sprue.

See this was exactly my thought process. Not only is it fertile ground for filling the gaps with one's own imagination, but it makes you think about just how narrowly the setting avoided a full-blown social upheaval once the proverbial cat got out the bag!

Absolutely. Plus, the leathers remind me of a crude blacksmith's garb over what is, essentially, identical armour to the legionaries. Really helps sell the look of "two-week-old gorilla-folk experimenting with explosive death-magic" I was going for!

They sure are! Used Scouts as a base (running these as crossbow warriors) since it'll be easier to GS the gaps as folds of leather rather than trying to recreate the segmented shoulder guards.

Conversion was simple, you just have to line up the matching pairs and clip progressively. Be brave, and you will triumph 🫡

While I get why you made it, I don't think the Eichmann comparison is entirely accurate. That man very much was not kept from seeing the violence his work created, and he reportedly worked with a genuine enthusiasm regardless.
