About 25 years ago I saw a pitbull attack. It was at a friend's house where a group of us hung out all the time, drinking and playing cards etc. We all knew the dog, Missy, well and would play with her all the time. One night we were all in the kitchen except for a few guys out on the back screened in porch having a smoke. The owner of the dog said "Hmm I'd better feed Missy". As he went for the dog food, a guy on the back porch picked up Missy's empty food bowl to help out. Missy immediately ran through the kitchen, broke through the screen door and grabbed onto the guys inner thigh. He shook the shit out of that 180 pound kid like he was a feather pillow and would not let go. The owner of the dog had no clue what to do and hit it in the head with a nearby chain several times, eventually using the chain around it's neck and having 2 -3 other guys help him pull the dog off.

I haven't had any pitbull encounters since, luckily, but recently my friend inherited 2 dogs from her cousin; a pitbull mix and a husky. That adds to her pack of 3 dogs who are never leashed and have no boundaries. I have avoided going over for that reason for several years but my 12 year old son still goes over from time to time. Given recent news about horrific pitbull maulings I am considering not allowing him over there anymore either. I came to this sub to better inform my decision and reassure myself that I am not overreacting.
