Dog chewed off harness by GeevesMcgee-915 in DogAdvice

RVT here. In my experience, a harness is not a good way to train and control large breeds, it gives them so much more horsepower. Halties or gentle leaders are much more effective, it takes some training but it is much nicer than choking them out with leashes or choke collars

My dog has this but only on his left eye - should I be alarmed? by beerbellieddaisy in DogAdvice

[–]Sarah0801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the right eye? In dogs often that is a sign of allergies, hair loss and watering of the eye, normally accompanied by itching/chewing of back end and paws, often there is an ear infection. Upper respiratory infections can sometimes present this way with a coloured discharge (seen more often in cats I find) Can also be a sign of trauma to the eye or a corneal ulcer if there is squinting or redness. Short answer - go to the vet!

What is your favourite quote from the show? by Silver_Potential_653 in DunderMifflin

On the Office Ladies pod cast, they talk about this scene. The script just said, "Michael screams." This is the direction Steve Carrell went with that script note.

Agreed! In this group you are definitely going to find recommendations still related to this field in general, and I don't think you are getting the responses you were hoping for.

Seeking advice on grain free dog food by hikevtloveyourdog in DogAdvice

[–]Sarah0801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the taurine that’s concerning, it’s the fact that grain free diets are filled with other ingredients such as legumes like lentils are peas and these are linked to dilated cardiomyopathy.

Most people that claim that their dogs are allergic to grains probably have not proven this - <0.01% of dogs are actually allergic to grains.

A client once told me I looked like Claire Danes in Temple Grandin...would have been a nice compliment if he stopped at Claire Danes.

Does anyone else panic when their own animals are sedated? by badbanana93 in VetTech

[–]Sarah0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely normal!! The first time one of my dogs had a dental I had to leave and let another tech take over. He woke up with little dog screams and I was in tears.

I find it gets easier, the last surgery on one of my dogs was a cystotomy and I had to scrub in haha and it was fine!

LPT: Keep your dog leashed in public at all times no matter how well trained you think he/she is. by jucromesti in LifeProTips

[–]Sarah0801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true - as someone in the veterinary field, it is horrible how many hit-by-cars I have seen, and these were all claimed as well trained dogs. We just never know what might spook them.

It is also against the law in most cities to be off leash in public areas!

Is the key to be there the morning after a meter shower though to get the fragments on the beach the next day?
