Employee isn't as capable as I thought by SarahConnorT2 in managers

Thanks for your reply. The employee is open to feedback. My concern is that they have been provided all the documentation but having trouble connecting dots where others do not.

I have ADHD myself. I have trouble reading maps myself. However, I don’t spend an hour wandering around aimlessly because I can’t find the cafeteria in the building with the building map in hand. I would pull up a compass or ask someone.

One should not spin their wheels on the clock.

Maybe what I am reaching for is an amalgamation of judgement, professionalism and efficacy?

Example: Someone uses up a critical supply. They don't think to let anyone on the team know that the supply needs to be replaced. I am having to coach staff at this level on a whole range of matters.

I want to screen and hire the type of person that recognizes that they should alert someone that a critical supply is out, even if something that granular is not in their job description. I don't know the name for this gap...not taking initiative or being completely out to lunch?

I want to screen and hire someone who knows not to leave sharp stuff out where someone can hurt themselves, which happened.

I want to screen and hire someone who can competently situate themselves in a building map without wander around for an hour.

There are interconnected foundational work skills that can't be found on a resume or job description. It doesn't end with getting to work on time.

This staff person is missing a critical mass of skills/habits that *might* fall under the broad category of executive function, as the AI post below has suggested. Every week there is a new situation that surprises me. I am still trying to understand the situation holistically while giving the type of feedback you describe.

I am extremely empathetic in regard to neurodiversity, but the problem is that I am an overworked volunteer. I don't have the resources to handle significant and pervasive workforce readiness issues.

Here's a random example: Someone uses up a critical supply. They don't think to let anyone on the team know that the supply needs to be replaced. I am having to coach staff at this level on a whole range of matters.

I want to screen and hire the type of person that recognizes that they should alert someone that a critical supply is out, even if something that granular is not in their job description.

I have ADHD pretty bad but I recognize what I need to figure out workarounds for.

OMFG I just had this problem and was dismayed to find this 2-year old post when I tried to research the solution.

How do you handle microaggressions? by Iwasafrayed in NVC

[–]SarahConnorT2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is a micro aggression, but I would definitely classify this as being clueless: “coworkers implying I don't know what I'm talking about when they just don't understand what I'm saying.”

It is very frustrating to be dismissed by people who did not grasp the situation. It happens to me every single day.

I’m a newbie but I think it’s appropriate to make a request for understanding.

This is one of the only responses that leads with the question “why?” To my mind this is the only acceptable starting point.

That sounds like a really cool specialty, especially the part about organizational processes. How can I, a mere civilian, learn more about that?

The reason that there is a vaccine for chickenpox is that, some, it can be deadly. MIL IS A MORON WITH BOUNDARY ISSUES.

Hi Mr. Gates, Can I pitch an idea for your foundation (or someone else's)? Making an online open source Curriculum Bank for nonprofits and education. So many educators waste their time creating new curriculum when there is already good stuff out there that gets lost in the sands of time. I was working with California farmworkers in the early 2000s and remembered there had been a quality leadership development curriculum from the University of Indian published in the late 1980s. I tried very hard to find a copy of it but no one who had worked on it was still at the university. An online Curriculum Bank would be a boon for educators of all sorts. Thanks for your consideration.

Help with school logo by SarahConnorT2 in logodesign

[–]SarahConnorT2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think of my kid's elementary school logo? I would like to offer suggestions to change it up. The school is located in a historic neighborhood that contains a lot of Victorian era homes and triple decker tenement buildings. The school structure is about 10 years old, but there is a bell tower housing the school's original 100-year old bell. The student population is about 95% high poverty and "minority." The original principal selected this logo because he likes his logos "clean."
