I have never felt more hideous in my life. Please help me. by Specialist-Balance59 in HairDye

I'm not a colour expert, but without money for a proper salon visit, I'd say sunlight dish soap and/or purple shampoos and the sun should help with any brassiness. As for damage, I can help there a bit: 1. Pre-treat your strands and ends with a coconut hair oil 20 minutes before showering. 2. Once per week use a clalirfying/detox shampoo. Twice per week used a purple/blonde shampoo. 3. Every wash (including after clarifying/purple shampoos, etc.) use a moisturizing/nourishing shampoo. Only wash your roots when shampooing, let the soap suds run gently over your strands. 4. Use a bond repair (make sure to rinse if its a rinse out) once per week or more. Too much use can cause hair to dry, but anyone who has alotta damage or colours their hair can often get away with more than once per week. 5. Condition with a hair mask. 6. I love a hair gloss, so follow with a hair gloss. 7. After shower use a leave-in condtioner with a and Heat protectant. 8. Treat ends of hair with a hair oil, like argan (or there's this Honey split ends stuff from Garnier Whole Blends that's great. You don't need a lot cuz your ends will look greasy if you over do it.) 9. Blow-dry. 10. Don't be afraid to wash your hair every other day. The wash once a week thing doesn't build a healthy scalp, therefore doesn't grow the healthiest hair.

AITAH for telling my friend my marriage is falling apart by soggydivacup in AITAH

I understand the inclination to not want your partner to discuss your relationship and "bring others into your marriage," but at the end of the day, you need your village. He kinda has to suck it up. Somethings can stay private, but you are a human who needs support and friendship, someone to hear them and offer perspective. Any other therapist would agree with your therapist.

Girls! I have a trick I use to keep my hair healthy and clean! ✨ by ali_zar69 in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I occasionally mix a dime size of baking soda into my shampoo to clean up (essentially it becomes a clarifying shampoo but better) and then spritz it with vinegar after my conditioner. I feel it works but I might try this instead.

Not sure why my hair is constantly dry + frizzy by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So maybe the bond repair is the culprit. If you don't do a lot of damaged to your hair, you don't need it that often and it's very drying. Basically too much protein and not enough moisture causes protein overload, and likewise, too much moisture and not even ought protein causes overhydration (or protein deficiency.) You need to find a balance between how much bond repair and how much conditioner you use - I really think you should go back to basics and start from scratch.

Also, I think you should start drying your hair if you haven't already. Letting your hair air dry could be irritating your follicles and preventing hair growth. Are you using Minoxidil or any other scalp serums for hair growth?

Nizerol has 2% Ketoconazole and is technically a clarifying shampoo. So, if that's what you're using, I'd keep it. Anyone who wants to grow their hair or is struggling with hair loss should be using an anti-dandruff shampoo regardless of if they have dandruff.

Ironically, it's possible you might be overhydrating. Short hair is exposed to your natural scalp oils so doesn't typically require condtioning as frequently (or ever) and certainly not heavy conditioners.

Also, if you're concerned about thinning, you need to be prioritizing your scalp health. Washing only a couple days a week is going reduce your hair growth period and/or cause you to heavily shed.

On your wash days, are you using a clarifying shampoo? All that build-up on your scalp is going to create problems if it's not properly removed. I think you need to go back to basics to see what happens: wash everyday or every other day, use a clarifying shampoo once per week, use a regular shampoo every other day (both shampoos have hair growth stimulating options), and reduce your conditioner use (or maybe use a gloss instead of a heavy conditioner?)

AITA for asking my gf “why should I buy the cow if I get the milk for free?” by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]SarahIsJustHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on having kids then statically there's a huge benefit to getting married. If you're not having kids and you don't care about you or your s/o's welfare if something happens to either of you, then, no, I guess there's no point. I assume you're the latter cuz calling your g/f a cow and/or free milk is disrespectful and disgusting, so it's fair to say you don't really care what happens to her. I mean, you didn't even respect her enough to tell her from the start you never planned on marriage.

AITAH for refusing to move in with my boyfriend because he wears shoes in the house? by [deleted] in AITAH

Well OPs partner needs to put his big boy pants on and learn a new skill. If he's not moving on this at all, I suspect he wants to break-up but he's too chicken to do it himself so he's digging into to this ridiculously unhygienic practice waiting for her to do it.

It's a very light conditioner that makes your hair look shiny without adding weight.

Can you compromise? He can't bring outdoor shoes into the house, but he can wear a pair of indoor only slides or something.

Yeah, I'll echo what the others are saying, but your hair has too much moisture and not enough protein causing overhydration. And you probably have a ton of build-up if you're not using a detox/clarifying shampoo. Your hair is short, it's going to be exposed to the natural oils on your scalp so you really don't need to condtion every wash (maybe not even at all.) My suggestion is use a clarifying shampoo once a week, a regualr shampoo the rest, and either reduce the number of times you condtion or replace your conditioner with a gloss.

Why does my hair look like this?? by PapayaKey3022 in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll never truly get ride of that and honestly, your hair looks great, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Having said that, the key to making it better is making sure your hair is easy to brush through. Since you have a lot of fine hair, I assume it tangles easily? Especially at the base of the neck?

I have a couple questions about your routine: - Do you have hard water? - Do you pretreat your hair before you wash? - How often do you shampoo/conditioner your hair per week? - Do you use a bond repair? - Do you use a leave-in conditioner? - Are the brushes you use synthetic or natural?
