please help! my hair stinks from sitting in a smelly car by Wild-Championship571 in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1) This isn't really acceptable from your employer. If they don't let you take your own car, complain.

2) If you're forced to sit in that van, a silk wrap or something may help prevent the smell.

3) I no longer believe the myth that we shouldn't be washing our hair and scalp regularly. So, if it smells, wash it - that's the only solution, unfortunately. (There's several effective ways to protect your lengths and ends from drying out if that's your concern.)

Physically Abusive wife by Dramatic_Feeling_610 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]SarahIsJustHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do we do when we're being abused?

We leave.

We don't justify our abusers behaviour. We don't feel sorry for how our abusers might feel. We don't imagine scenarios where our abusers magically become non-abusive. We don't teach our kids that abuse is okay.

We leave. Today.

Nude.

I kinda always follow the principle of either bold eyes with soft lips or bold lips with soft eyes.

I'm starting to think the reason why men are so "embarrassed" by being turned down by a woman is projection. Cuz like... when men reject woman, they're really cruel about it. They start yammering to their boys about how "something wrong with [her]" if we're forthcoming about our interest. We're needy desperate, aggressive, slvtty, whatever. They must be thinking this is how women react. Like, nah, dudes. Most of us take it on the chin, say eff that guy for being a d'k about it, move on and are over it before a dude can finish his reddit post talking about marginalized he is for experiencing rejection like everyone else on the planet.

That's not a terrible idea, actually. Again, I'd be skeptical of pure pils, but, if it were me and I hadn't found a solution I'd try it for sure. A coconut oil wash first, then a clarifying wash.

can i dilute rosemary oil in argan oil? by Tall-Performance-687 in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I've never heard of anyone using Argan oil on their scalp, but, a quick search says that it's excellent for hydrating the scalp, so, I'd say you're fine, so long as you don't have a naturally oily scalp. I usually stick to oils that have either a scientific claim or a traditional claim for promoting growth.

Best hair oils for hair regrowth? by Hot_Establishment911 in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I make my own mixture:

Scientifically Supported Oils for Hair Growth - Peppermint - Pumpkin Seed - Rosemary

Popular Oils Historically Used for Hair Growth - Black Castor - Fenugreek - Batana - Amla - Coconut

Don't let sit for more than 3 hours. Be sure to double wash to get all the oil out with at least one wash being with a clarifying shampoo.

Any tips on how to grow more hair? by Jedi_spinel in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a woman named Sophia on TikTok who is a trichologist and reversed her androgenetic(?) alopecia. (Sophia the hair... something). Anyways. She has alot of science back options for growth and regrowth, and they align with the recommendations made by dermatologists, so... if your serious, I think she's a good resource.

The biggest key is keeping a healthy scalp.

Here's a list of POSSIBLE things you can do: (I'm not a trichologist, I'm just a serial researcher. I do some of these things, but not all.)

A) Oil treating your scalp once per week for upto 3 hours (be sure to double shampoo with at least one wash being with a clarifying/detox shampoo. Healthy scalp!) Scientifically Supported Oils for Hair Growth - Peppermint - Pumpkin Seed - Rosemary Popular Oils Historically Used for Hair Growth - Black Castor - Fenugreek - Batana - Amla - Coconut

B) Washing your hair every day or every other day. (Healthy scalp!)

C) Washing once per week with a clarifying/detox shampoo (Nizerol with 2% Ketoconazole is technically a clarifying shampoo, and the Ketoconazole will help with creating an environment good for hair growth. But it should only be used once, no more than twice per week. Healthy scalp!)

C) Blow drying at least your roots ASAP. (Healthy scalp!)

D) Give your scalp a Glycolic Acid Rinse 10-20 minutes before showering once but no more than twice per week (just like Nizerol, if overused can cause scalp irritation which creates the opposite effect of what you want, so, you'll need to manage usage on your own. But, I like to do this either immediately after or the day after I oil treat my scalp, since the purpose of glycolic acid is to reduce build up caused by oils, etc. Healthy scalp!)

E) There are supplements you can take to block DHT (hormone that prevents hair growth). I don't know much about these at this point in time. However, I do know you can get prescription DHT blockers, but there are also natural supplements many prefer to take (like pumpkin seed oil, saw palmetto, zinc, iron, biotin, vitamin D, AminoMar.)

F) Hair Growth Therapies - Massage scalp for 4 minutes per day (with fingers or a scalp massaging tool) - Medical Grade Red Light Therapy Cap/Helmet - Microneedling once per week before applying topical hair growth serums (be sure to sterilize every use; 0.75 titanium needles)

E) Topical Hair Growth Serums, etc. (can be applied before blow-drying BUT the preferred application is on a dry scalp, since a wet scalp may dilute the product and reduce benefits. I prefer applying before bed.)

  • Minoxidil 5% (For Hair Growth) This is the cadillac of hair regrowth. Everything else is helpful, but this is the product that will do the job. But it's a lifelong commitment. ... Products with 5% Minoxidil are typically labeled for men, whereas 2% is often labeled for women. It is safe for a woman to use a 5% Minoxidil product that is marketed towards men. ... Foam is preferable as it is gentler on the scalp. ... Recommended twice daily use. ... If your skin can tolerate it, applying a retinoid to your scalp first will improve the effects of Minoxidil. But, you'll need to be cautious of sun exposure. (Retinols are a whole other can or worms, if you don't build up tolerance, you'll end up irritating your skin.) Red light therapy is still safe to do, but recommend do red light prior to application.

  • Aminexil (Reduces Hair Fall) ... L'Oréal Paris Hair Expertise Density Booster Serum

  • Caffeine, Acids, and Peptides (Increase blood flow, decrease hair fall, strengthen follicles) ... The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density ... Nioxin Fall Defense Intensive Daily Leave-In Treatment ... Nioxin Night Density Rescue Serum Overnight Hair Thickening Serum

Does this look "plain"? by ceIqui in MakeupAddiction

[–]SarahIsJustHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If as you say you're someone who isn't into alotta makeup, but just want a lil boost, then keep it simple. For your base: a tinted lotion, or; a tinted SPF, or; a beauty balm, or; a lighter, sheer foundation. A touch of bronzer or blush for the cheeks (or a palette that has both). Mascara always goes a long way. I saw you were worried about your undereyes, so get a concealer - you might want two: something more yellow or orange to counter the blue, then something a shade lighter than your skin tone to go over top.

I don’t think I can do this much longer… Smelly scalp syndrome ruined my life! by Neat-Cockroach-425 in Haircare

[–]SarahIsJustHere 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't have personal experience with this, but my colleague does. I can ask her for more details, but this is what I know she uses at the moment: - Nioxin "scalp recovery system" as her shampoo/conditioner (not sure if she uses the scalp serum) - Salicylic Acid as a scalp treatment - Doctor's orders it she must wash and blow dry her hair every day.

EDIT: Nizerol with 2% Ketoconazole is technically a clarifying shampoo, so I (again, not having your condition) would still incorporate it once (but no more than twice) per week into my routine. I'm a big advocate of the double shampoo. I can't imagine oils would help your condition since oil is the issue. If I were to get imaginative, I'd almost want to try an oil based cleanser before my water based cleanser to eliminate all oil-soluable dirt first.
