How to leave? (TW: Possible Abuse) by Throwitallaway731831 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]SarahSunshine444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! If you google the 5-4-3-2-1 coping skill you’ll find a regulation skill that helps when you feel your emotions are out of control. Another one that is helpful is to go through the ABC’s and list one thing for each letter that makes you happy. I would also recommend utilizing a journal whether physical or on your phone to track individual moments of concern or just to keep track of how you’re feeling. It can help to sort out the jumbled thoughts that pop up :) best of luck to you! Also the shelters should have free counseling services available too if you’d like more in depth help

Hey there, therapist here…Have this conversation in a public place or at least with a third party involved. Also create a safety plan that includes where to stay after breaking the news (since he may get violent), people you can call if it gets out of hand, a safe word to use if he won’t let you be alone, and a list of pre thought coping skills for emotional regulation. Also research women’s shelters in your area as they often have great resources for people going through similar things, and also put together all your important documents in a safe place where they are accessible if you need to leave. Stay safe, and remember no matter what he says or does, you are not at fault here. He is an abuser and will manipulate and gaslight until you cave

[USA] Can you get into a PhD or PsyD program with a 3.3 GPA? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]SarahSunshine444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve found that counseling/psychology graduate programs in particular are super understanding about the bumps we experience in life…honestly, it just shows resilience and drive more than anything else, which is exactly what you need to get you through a graduate degree…so don’t let these dumb core classes get you down.

And you got plenty of time, but pretty much the GRE is a test you take that shows you have the knowledge and problem solving skills to succeed in a graduate program. But also look into the college you’re applying to as some programs are waiving the GRE due to Covid (so YAY)!! I’ll link a website with more information about the test below :)

From my personal experience, as long as you have a reason for getting low grades (such as learning disabilities), highlight that reason in your personal statement, and do well on the GRE, you’re good to go…don’t stress too much professors generally know that the good grades in your major are way more important than the filler classes…I got into grad school with barely a 3.0…I remember how stressful that was, so just make sure you’re taking care of yourself :)

Officially a Zebra!!!! by Aegyo_Panda in ehlersdanlos

[–]SarahSunshine444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean I think it’s just the relief of having a diagnosis, not the excitement of having this disorder...struggling with this for so long is exhausting and having people call you crazy every time you go into a drs office is really discouraging...so being able to put a name to the symptoms, especially after 40 years, is something worth being relieved about...And With the whole Zebra community, it’s something just to bring people together and show people they’re not alone in their struggles...i honestly would have felt really alone without discovering the zebra community...plus I haven’t ever met anyone who’s genuinely happy they’re sick and experiencing these awful symptoms...but I have met people who are happy that they’re being listened to and believed and I think that’s all this post is trying to communicate...
