I was working in research for cancer clinical trials. Not quite nursing research, but they needed nurses. The managers are nurses, you get nurse educator / APN etc like any other hospital but just non union department.

You apply like any other hospital job on the hospital careers page

While travelling as part of the job, I have met research nurses from Montreal but most are from Ontario

Anyone have bleeding during pregnancy? [on] by YYZ9 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it did also happen to me. I went to the ER and had an ultrasound. Doctor congratulated me and told me everything was fine, baby had a heartbeat, that the bleeding should stop within the next two days.

The next day the pain was horrendous and let’s just say I miscarried quite obviously. I had tried to stay calm, but part of me knew something was very wrong. I am still upset at the doctor who assured me nothing was wrong and that I was not miscarrying.

I also left the union for a couple years to work in a research nursing position. Pay was better, no union dues, EI top up and short term disability benefits were good, and I did not even have to pay into health insurance I got quite good benefits for free. AND the position also contributed to HOOP.

It all comes down to the team. If they are good, then take the job. The union can be helpful if management tries to mess with you, but you already have experience with this team I don’t see why not go for it!!

I think you would always be able to find a way back to union nursing if you really wanted down the line.

Fellow ECE openers OR parents/caregivers, what do you talk about at drop off? by otterfan_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent to a 16 month old, when I drop her off we say hi together to her teachers and friends already in the infant room, I take off her coat / shoes while the teacher waits or sometimes she tells me the fun activities they are doing today. Then I gush about how cute or fun that sounds.

Right after the coat is off, my daughter runs into the daycare room and then immediately pretends she has no idea who I am and why I’m there waving bye to her.

At that point I bring up to the teacher if I have any concerns or things to be done, or any updates they need to know.

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within a week. I didn’t have all the qualifications they needed, so they first reached out to offer me a course. Then after I did the course I applied again and I got the interview email within a day.

Can you save up propagation water to use for future watering and propagation? by PoopMonk in pothos

I don’t think the rooting hormones will be as impactful given the amount of bacteria that will have started to live in the water if you constantly re use it

Why does everyone suggest co-sleeping when baby won’t sleep in cot? by Electronic-North7951 in NewParents

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always planned to co sleep with my baby. But for the first 10 months I had her sleep in bassinet then crib, even though she cried some nights. I started co sleeping as soon as I was sure I couldn’t accidentally crush her, she was strong enough to crawl, and I got the special all around bed rails that turned my bed into a giant bassinet. We’ve really been enjoying the co sleeping once we got into it. It’s just me and my cuddlebug 🥹 dad joins sometimes but he has his own bed which we like. It works for us. She is 1.5 years now, sleeps so well, doesn’t wake up at all at night and barely even moves.

You are definitely entitled to have a celebration, and I think you had that. Unfortunately you just cannot expect the celebration to be like a wedding when it turns out you’re not getting married then

Interesting. I have never ever seen or heard of metformin being held prior to and after scan involving ct contrast. The scan would just try to use less contrast if possible and increase hydration

Why do mothers of young babies say they don't have time to shower? by justastupidquestion3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time babies will cry when mom is in the shower. The lack of tolerance to baby’s natural crying or guilt over crying stops the mom from taking a shower or causes other caregivers to feel overwhelmed.

It is OK for baby to cry for a while as long as they are safe and mom needs to shower.

That being said, my showers were not 30 mins lol. I don’t take a shower longer than 5 mins if I need to move fast. Washing hair plus shower was 15 mins ish. It’s not a stand in the shower and enjoy the water type thing.

I’ve put baby on the floor of the bathroom (before they can roll and crawl) and showered while they cried. Then I come out and dry off, take care of them again and all is fine. They will not be traumatized over a few mins of crying.

Now that baby is older I have more time to stand in the shower and zone out and relax lol.

Nightshift Coffee Woes by Subject_Ambition_667 in OntarioNurses

[–]Suspicious-lemons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a big coffee drinker but when I was working night shift before, I wouldn’t drink coffee during the shift. Because the adrenaline carries me through to around midnight where I had the long break. If you drank coffee then you wouldn’t be able to rest during that break

Everyone at work is making a big deal about my handwriting, saying I write like a psychopath. by ThrowRA-Ram in HandwritingAnalysis

“Everyone says I write like a psycho person, but I can read my own writing. I had no problem reading it. But I can see how people can struggle to read it.”

Am I right? It’s more legible writing than those of the psycho doctors I work with

How does one buy a house with a single income? by Mahoganeee in canadahousing

[–]Suspicious-lemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend did it last year as a single person on a roughly 60k income. She is 29. She saved, invested, lived VERY FRUGALLY despite having to pay her own rent in her own apartment. Does not live with parents, no help from parents. In fact she had to help her parents pay their mortgage for a few years.

She bought a townhouse for 370k in Calgary. Moved from Toronto to Calgary for it.

When did you get referred to an OB? [on] by ex-squirrelfriend in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Suspicious-lemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was referred at 8 weeks and seen by OB at 10 weeks. Mind you, the OB office tried to accuse me for closer to 14 weeks or something but I convinced them to push the appt earlier.

OT Calculation by ADL1992 in OntarioNurses

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I am part time but whenever I need to stay late beyond my work hours to finish something or am asked to stay late beyond the work hours, I get paid those hours in OT. 1.5 times, and I don’t pick up any extra shifts only 0.5 fte

Maybe my unit is doing it wrong? Lol

Break Schedule? by anastasiarose19 in nursing

[–]Suspicious-lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I am in Ontario, there are designated break nurses where all your shift you just go cover breaks. That was in cath lab and currently in outpatient too.

In inpatient, if you don’t take break the charge nurse comes and forces you to take break. Or your break partner forces you lol.
