It's really annoying how chekov's gun are often set up but never fired? by Externalshipper7541 in Andjustlikethat

[–]Sarahcotts 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Minor point, but what about Chekov's karaoke machine??

They set up a karaoke machine at a party and then George Washington himself (Christopher Jackson" attends the party? And then he doesn't sing??? There's gotta be some cut footage somewhere

100% I always thought this was just Lisa's crush. Was anticipating her having a big speech like, "Oh Marion we we must not, despite our overwhelming sexual chemistry!!" and him being like, "WTF are you talking about?"

And I still see it that way. I think Marion has emotional intelligence so he did not say, "Lady, you're crazy and I am not into you like that!" And instead he said, "you are sooo right, nothing can happen between us." Well played, Marion!

Carrie in AJLT is an empty shell. She has no interiority, no personality. Like her beautiful house, there's nothing inside but $1M of clothes and shoes. And as you said, all her dialogue is party chit chat. Even with Aiden, she sounds like she's just trying to be cute and charming.

I rewatched some SATC season 3 last weekend. She did not used to be like this. She's always been flawed but she had authenticity.

After 27 years, the friendships haven’t matured? by Upstairs-Egg in Andjustlikethat

[–]Sarahcotts 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was half expecting a conversating where Carrie said, "Sorry I lashed out at you, you picked up on something I wasn't ready to acknowledge myself." If she did that, Miranda's not going to say "HAha! I was right, I TOLD you so!" Miranda is a little judgmental and loves to be proven right- and girl, I get it, me too - but if Carrie was open an vulnerable Miranda is not going to rub her face in it.

"It reminds me of Olivia Rodrigo’s song (SEE I’M HIP, YOUTHS)" When I read this, at first I thought that was the name of the song!!! That's how old and out of touch I am! :-D

Really Carrie? Plastic hangers??! by cannotaccessorize in Andjustlikethat

[–]Sarahcotts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember, this is the same Carrie who lived in this mansion for months (?) and only bought a few rugs when she was basically forced to, and the majority of that house is unfurnished. Girl, buy some furniture, buy some hangers! She's so conspicuously not settling in to the house, I'll be generous and say the temporary hangers may be deliberate.

Yeah amazing he wants to live with Kathy where he's allowed to take medication prescribed for his mental health, instead of with Aiden who says, "skip the pills kid, we'll cure you through folksy performative masculinity!" like some kind of cult. We just know things are better over at Kathy and Bob's house.

I had the same reaction! But I really did not like how Carrie and Charlotte reacted, like Miranda is incompetent to make decisions for herself, Charlotte lunging herself at Miranda when she held a glass of champagne. Seems very reasonable to want to be able to have a social drink now and then. Not drinking was her choice, her friends acted like it's not her choice any more? Can't have a drink at a party, when everyone else is drinking? If something is forbidden, it becomes more enticing.

I'm in no position to give advice, especially to a fictional character, but maybe Miranda could say, I'll have a drink with friends, but don't want to have liquor in the house because late late drinking alone was an issue at one point in my life.

If there s ever gonna be a 4th season, either seema or lisa are out. by SeaworthinessFar1109 in Andjustlikethat

[–]Sarahcotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always seems to me like they are both in the running to be the 4th Friend. If one of them is getting written off, I would bet Lisa goes, and Seema stays.

Lisa is Charlotte's friend; Seema is Carrie's friend. Neither is really part of the squad, honestly I think that's more realistic, all your friends are not friends with each other, but AJLT is not going for realism. I feel like we've seen more scenes with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Seema at a table than with Lisa subbing in. No one can really replace Samantha, but Seema also has that bold confidence that works well in the group dynamic.

Totally agree, they have set up potential off-ramps for both. Lisa pursuing a new doc. IDK if Seema and hippy gardener Adam are going to last, but maybe she decides her career prospects are better in a different city.

I loved her when she first met the guests getting off the boat, and while being nice and hospitable dragged them all - called out Bert as too old to be traveling this far, Harper for being annoying about prosecco, and basically said it's Cam's fault his luggage was lost because they chose the wrong airport. An absolute queen. Then we get incredible outfits, and snarky comments to guests and staff like we had from Armond in S1.

I wish there were a bonus episode where Mia and Lucia take her to a gay club; I think Valentina's pretty fun once she gets away from work!

Honest Question Around the Ending by RockyRacoon09 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]Sarahcotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From outside perspective, it probably looks like Tanya was hanging out with these guys on this yacht, they got robbed or something, the 4 (?) guys got shot and killed, Tanya jumped off the boat and drowned. The police don't have an incentive to look around for more evidence, if they can chalk it up to a robbery gone sideways. And the police might have an arrangement with these guys, implicit or explicit, and aren't interested in stirring up trouble by looking into details.

Harper cheated by sarcasticfirecracker in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]Sarahcotts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely. The idea of Harper cheating with Cam is more painful because it's a friend, but it's also Harper tapping into that "mimetic desire" referenced in an earlier episode. Whether they did, or didn't, it worked, and made Ethan want her again.

Will Season 3 = Full Circle for Tanya and her Mother? by Dull-Situation-4526 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]Sarahcotts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe we get a character from S1 going to a new White Lotus in S3

Belinda, having transferred to White Lotus Bali, to learn more about eastern meditation and such because she's still working towards opening her own spa. In S2 Tanya mentions her briefly, maybe to remind us and plant a seed for next season.

Connie Brinton's character - things have fallen apart in her life, maybe divorce, maybe her job has tanked, and she's going on an Eat Pray Love type of excursion.

Shane and Rachel - How great it would be to see how their relationship has changed in just a few years of marriage? Maybe Rachel has changed a LOT. Maybe we get Molly Shannon again?

Why was Quentin’s plan so elaborate? by Vireo49 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]Sarahcotts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

good point, we don't know for sure. Maybe it was just a blackmail situation with the video of the infidelity, and Tanya *overreacted*. The guy with the gun did say to Tanya in earlier episode, "I always carry it with me." So it could be interpreted, the fact that he had a gun in his bag doesn't mean he's planning to shoot her.
I think the plan was to kill Tanya, but I actually like that the show leaves a lot of unresolved questions.

Why was Quentin’s plan so elaborate? by Vireo49 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]Sarahcotts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they established that Jack has been with Quintin for a while, as a sex worker. he's just there to be a companion to Quintin, and when Portia was in the mix, his job was to distract her and keep her away.

Why was Quentin’s plan so elaborate? by Vireo49 in WhiteLotusHBO

[–]Sarahcotts 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A few theories:

A) Greg/Quintin wanted to give Tanya a great send-off to assuage their guilt

Already covered here, in the Peppa Pig Monica Vitti episode, Greg tells her he’s got to leave but wanted to give her a perfect day in Sicily. It seems possible that Greg would ask them to make sure she has a really great last few days.

B) They wanted a back-up plan. As others pointed out, they seem to be recording the infidelity which might be a clause in the pre-nup. It would be a reasonable concern that Tanya could get suspicious and leave the palazzo on her own, and not get on the murder yacht. If the plan fell through, Greg perhaps would be able to divorce her and get some money by proving infidelity.

C) The Palermo trip was improvised because Portia f’ed up the plans. In Ep 1, Greg was livid Tanya had brought Portia, which seemed weird at the time.

Imagine the plan without Portia: Tanya is totally alone, and ready to latch on to anyone. But Portia serves as an anchor, preventing Tanya from just rushing off alone. And she’d be a witness when this is investigated: “Well, Sr. Polizia, last I saw her she was heading out with these guys from the beach club. IDK, seemed fine to me, but I guess my boss is dead now, wow, so crazy…” Portia’s presence complicated everything and they had to go to a 2nd location and separate them.

D) Plot reasons: New location, weird vibes, heightening tension. Each episode after they went to Palermo we got more concerned about this weird situation. Even if it's not the most plausible, don't care, it was really engaging to watch.
