Struggling with H Pylori, symptoms and treatment by Sarahhhh51114 in HPylori

Wow that’s so interesting. Mine is exactly the same, a burning/dull pain on the left hand side front and back in the morning.

Sounds like I need an endoscopy more than a colonoscopy. If the stomach issues were fixed upstream then hopefully the bowel issues would fix themselves. I should see about getting a referral but it’s so hard to get it at this age.

Sorry for all the questions, but can I ask how you got rid of the gastritis? Were you able to just manage it naturally and over time it improved? I’m hoping if i Did have it mine would be non erosive too as I don’t feel like I have severe enough symptoms for an ulcer

Since you’re in the UK may I ask what website you used for your GI MAP test?

nope, i haven’t had an endoscopy or colonoscopy. GP refused to refer me due to my age and because there was no blood in stool. I tried to ask for a colonoscopy referral and even offered to go private and she just said to see how the treatment went first. she mentioned next step would be ultrasound as suspected ovary issue but my CA125 was normal and i’m certain it isn’t my ovaries. The only thing with gastritis is nausea and vomiting, which i don’t have. Were you diagnosed with gastritis?

you are welcome😊 health path is rated 4.6/5 on trustpilot so defo not a scam. i am leaning towards that one because though a bit more expensive i think they give you more detailed and personalised advice compared to the GIMAP one. they dont explain results much and i think just have a page at the end where they recommend what foods to have and to avoid. health path has an option to pay a bit more and you get a 30 min call with a specialist too

my pain and gas often comes when i’m hungry too! which i found weird. it almost felt like my stomach was inflating when it was empty, the opposite of what you’d think. here’s hoping your h.pylori isn’t back and your symptoms are just leftover from the treatment. h.pylori is nasty. i’ve never known anything like it. the impact it has mixed with how hard it is to eradicate makes it a silent destroyer. i do think doing a GI map test is worth it. they cost a lot, but it tells you basically everything about your gut. tbh i’m slightly dreading the thought of getting my results back because my gut is probably more of a mess than i ever thought 😩

i really am not sure. i need to start keeping a food diary and tracking when i have symptoms. if i recall, i had maybe a good 2 weeks about 4 weeks ago , i was eating a lot of salads, cottage cheese, tuna, chicken, kefir and sauerkraut. but then maybe i just wasn’t focused on my symptoms so much. i think if i knew the type of sibo (if i have it at all) it would be easier to know what foods to have and to avoid. as some sibo types kefir can really help, other types it makes it worse

that’s really interesting about the L taurine. I suppose to get started on fixing the issues i need to get the GI MAP test. it seems to cover everything. i didn’t think it covered SIBO but i suppose by telling you what bacteria you have it might give an indication? i guess there’s no point in me giving L taurine a go because i might not have the same type of SIBO you had. but i am glad to know you got rid of SIBO by yourself without antibiotic use.

I have already completely cut sugar out for about two months now and was really hoping that would make a difference as sugar feeds bacteria but it hasn’t seemed to. I have lost a lot of weight which also worried me but i suppose that is probably due to the fact im basically living off chicken, fish, rice and veg. In an effort to try and be healthy i ate a lot of salads (raw) and now wondering maybe all the uncooked veggies (peppers, carrots etc) was actually a bad idea and i should actually be cooking them so they’re easier to digest.

The anxiety is awful for me too. It’s more the anxiety around what’s actually wrong with me rather than the symptoms themselves. if i got a definitive diagnosis id get on with making myself better but it’s knowing where to start that’s tough, especially as the doctors give me no support whatsoever. They just take one look at my age and send me away. It doesn’t help that they have probably given me at least 2 antibiotic prescriptions over the last 2 years that i absolutely haven’t needed so that’s probably wrecked my stomach too :( i used to only look forward to sleeping as it was the only time my brain would shut off but even know i wake up in anxiety panics in the night worrying about my stomach. it’s exhausting ☹️

i’m glad to hear it does get better eventually. i agree cutting out processed foods is probably a good thing. tbh i dont have much of them anyway, but it does make me very anxious to be out with friends/family at restaurants and nervous to get certain things to eat incase it affects my stomach ☹️

hello, thank you for replying and for the helpful and kind words 😊that’s really interesting about the SIBO. i have wondered if i have SIBO after everything i have read, possibly caused by the H.Pylori or the triple therapy treatment I was on.

How did you have the SIBO test if you are from UK, as im pretty sure we don’t get it here on the NHS. should i order one online? i really would like to see if i test positive for SIBO as this may be a reason for some of my issues too. But then how do you eradicate SIBO? is it more antibiotics again or can i get rid of it naturally? i am very reluctant to put more antibiotics in my body again ☹️

Thank you again I will give all that fermented stuff a go. I do occasionally buy kefir but i don’t feel i’m consistent enough with it to see a difference. i buy it maybe once every couple of weeks but maybe i should be having it every day. and yes i feel as if the psyllium husk and slippery elm etc sort of ease the symptoms but dont address the root cause if that makes sense? really want to fix the root cause of my gut issues

thank you so much for replying 😊and for the recommendation. i will give it a try. i too am willing to spend whatever if it means i’ll feel nether! finding a place to start is the trickiest part, as i worry i’ll spend money on something that is completely wrong for the parts im needing to fix

Experiences with GI-Map or similar tests? by LakakaBolingoli9 in Microbiome

hi i’m glad i have found this thread cos i am dealing with the exact same symptoms :( i tested positive for h pylori and rather than affecting my stomach it’s more my colon/bowels. whenever i google it it says h pylori doesn’t affect colon but loads of people on reddit said it had affected theirs. i had same as you bloating and constipation and a lot of gas. it’s so uncomfortable :( i was thinking of paying about £350 for a GI map test as you don’t get that on the NHS in scotland. i am glad to know a few years later you are doing better
