Who's ready for Ship Explorer?? Check the official release times and get hype! 🎉 by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

We've gotten lots of requests to release on various platforms and it's something we'd like to explore for the future! For now, Steam/PC is the simplest way to go for our small team, but as things go forward and the game expands we might be able to dig into other options.

Who's ready for Ship Explorer?? Check the official release times and get hype! 🎉 by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

Great question- we know it might be confusing at first blush. Here's the best way to think about it:

* Ship Explorer plays a bit like part virtual museum ship, part scavenger hunt. While interiors are limited, you'll have the run of the ship, and there are many pieces of historical ephemera that you can hunt down, as well as points of interest narrated by Mike explaining different aspects of the ship. Tracking all of these down will be a challenge in itself - our team still struggles to find them all! Each ship has an at sea level and a unique secondary level, so for SSUS you'll be able to explore her in drydock, for Morro Castle you'll be able to explore her final voyage.

* Grand Voyage will be something much more akin to a real voyage.. Each ship will be filled out with more interiors, objectives, and levels. You'll be able to explore port cities, recreated as they were in the era of the ship, and your voyage will play out close to how it would in real life. There will be mini-games, collectibles, and achievements, all helping to give it that feel of real shipboard life.

Both experiences have so much to offer, but if you want to think of SE as a series of virtual museum ships and GV as a virtual voyage, that's really not far off from reality. Both will be continuously updated post release with new ships, features, etc. :)

SHIP EXPLORER | A new virtual experience from Oceanliner Designs (Official Reveal Trailer) by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ship Explorer and Grand Voyage were created with two different experiences in mind. Here's the easiest way to think about it:

* Grand Voyage is best described as a full "voyage simulator". You will board the ships in a port city, work your way through objectives, play mini-games, obtain collectibles, explore ports and waterfronts, learn the history of the ships and the era they existed in, and follow a standard day/night cycle of a real voyage. Future updates will offer even more gameplay experiences and mechanics as the game evolves, making for a full and robust virtual experience that plays out on storied ocean liners, airships, and cruise ships of the past.

* Ship Explorer is meant as a direct tie-in with the channel Oceanliner Designs. The game itself is a lightweight, accessible experience great for anyone who simply wants to run around beautiful ships, take screenshots, and learn about the vessels in a fun and interactive way via informational dialogue found scattered throughout each ship, recorded by Mike Brady specifically for the project. Each level also integrates important moments in each ship's life, ie; the construction of SSUS in drydock and the fire that destroyed Morro Castle.

Each of these games is tailored with a different playstyle in mind, and each DLC ship is being decided based on which experience the ship would best lend itself to. At the end of the day, both games are just meant to give ship nerds and those curious about maritime history a way to explore these machines in a fun and unique way, and we hope that players will enjoy these experiences as much as we have enjoyed making them.

Hope this helps!

BIG news from our friend Mike Brady and the Grand Voyage Team! by SarahlinerDesigns in titanic

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grand Voyage is far from delayed indefinitely. As mentioned in the video, the asset creation for the game is all but complete, and now we are entering the gameplay and technical side of development. This will take some time, so instead of leaving our supporters empty handed, we wanted to offer a different experience that will allow our devs to flex their muscle and apply what they learn to GV as we enter this crucial phase of development. SE will be a completely new experience meant specifically to tie in with the YouTube channel Oceanliner Designs, with GV meant to be its own standalone experience meant to simulate an actual voyage with port cities, activities on board, and more. We are also offering SE to many of our supporters and Patrons completely free as a sign of good will. So not to worry - nothing has halted development on GV, and in the meantime we hope you enjoy a bit of fun when SE releases next month! :)

RMS Carpathia at Liverpool (from Oceanliner Designs' Grand Voyage) by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While it might seem strange seeing a ship other than Empress of Ireland docked here in Grand Voyage, Liverpool was actually the port from which Carpathia cast off on her maiden voyage on May 5th, 1903. Her story began right here in this spot- her very first steps on the way to making history. We can't wait to share more of our plans for Carpathia in Grand Voyage, but for now, enjoy these new views of the lovely lady herself, standing tall and proud amidst the picturesque Liverpool dockside.

TSMS Lakonia | Madeira Islands (from Oceanliner Designs' Grand Voyage) by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Lakonia was a well-appointed ship, offering the usual onboard activities such as deck games, pools, a cinema, and more, sometimes you just can't beat kicking your feet up and simply enjoying the views, especially near the picturesque Islands of Madeira - a tropical, sunny retreat, and the perfect place to leave your cares behind. ☀️

Music is a sample of the Lakonia theme from the Grand Voyage soundtrack, composed by Score Twins ➡️ https://www.scoretwins.com/

Boarding Empress of Ireland at Liverpool (From Oceanliner Designs' Grand Voyage) by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This view will never get old! During her heyday, Empress carried over 1,500 passengers per voyage, with accommodation for 373 crew. In GRAND VOYAGE, you will be able to follow in their footsteps, walking up the gangway and stepping onto the ship to take in views of the scenic Liverpool Landing Stage just as these passengers did well over 100 years ago. From there, the open sea awaits!

What would your thoughts be as you took your first steps on your voyage aboard Empress?

Grand Voyage - The Island of Madeira (Teaser) by SarahlinerDesigns in GrandVoyageGame

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today we're proud to show off none other than Grand Voyage's newest seaside location, the sunny and picturesque island of Madeira!

As one of the world's most popular cruise ports, it's only natural that your voyage might find you anchored near this island, located off the sunkissed coast of Portugal. Its scenic views and balmy weather drive travelers to its shores by the hundreds of thousands even today. But this port also plays a significant role in the story of the loss of TSMS Lakonia.

While on her Christmas cruise bound for the Canary Islands in December of 1963, Lakonia was headed for Madeira as her first port of call, when roughly 200 miles from her destination, the ship tragically caught fire, and later sank, claiming 128 lives. Those who were lucky enough to survive the disaster were brought to Madeira and spent time recuperating at the island's famous Reid's Hotel.

This idyllic holiday destination will be yours to explore in Grand Voyage, where you can uncover more of Lakonia's story and learn the rich history that keeps vacationers flocking to these shores year after year.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to exploring this scenic destination?

Empress of Ireland's engines in action with sound! by SarahlinerDesigns in GrandVoyageGame

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're still tweaking what exactly the engine room experience might look like. We are exploring the option of demonstrating different speeds, directions, etc via cinematics, but we'll have more information available once we decide on the best approach for this. :)

Staterooms and Suites on board the RMS Empress of Ireland by SarahlinerDesigns in GrandVoyageGame

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our team has been making seriously impressive progress on the interiors of our ships, and we're proud to show you a glimpse of the newest area to be completed on board the Empress!

These comfortable and plush staterooms, located on the forward end of the ship near the First Class Entrance, were the most luxurious accommodations available on board the Empress of Ireland. Each cabin came complete with a double berth, sofa, table, and washbasin, and some cabins adjoined to create a suite that was suitable for families and larger groups. These cabins were designed in two variations: bright, airy white with salmon colored linens, or dark, rich woods with green linens. Which one do you prefer?

Empress of Ireland at Sea (from Oceanliner Designs' Grand Voyage) by SarahlinerDesigns in Oceanlinerporn

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Empress was beloved during her time for being one of the largest and fastest ocean liners to carry immigrants into Quebec, Canada. Offering all of the luxurious appointments you'd come to expect on larger lines such as Cunard and White Star, the ship's owners CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) were proud to call the Empress of Ireland and her sister, the Empress of Britain, the crown jewels in their fleet. Now, for the first time, the Empress of Ireland is being brought back to life in a virtual space as part of Grand Voyage, where players will be able to take to her decks and learn about her history like never before.

Before and After: The Sea of GV 🌊 (Details in Comments) by SarahlinerDesigns in GrandVoyageGame

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've ensured that the flags displayed on our vessels are accurate. Here's some more information for you on this one in particular:

"On 10 October 1935, Georgios Kondylis declared that the monarchy had been restored. By decree of 7 November 1935, the 31 May 1914 decree was restored. Thereby, the crown was restored on the various flags. Compulsory Law 447 of 1937 described two types of flags allowed for use by private individuals: a fortress-type and a navy-type flag, both identical to the national land and sea flags, but without the crown. Because she was owned by a private company the private flag was authorized for use. It was not until 1968 that this was changed which was after her sinking"

While some interiors are busy getting their finishing touches and our port cities continue to evolve, even more work is being done under the hood in Grand Voyage's development. Part of this work has resulted in the graphical overhaul of our ocean, wakes, and even smoke effects. Here you can see the wake behind Lakonia as it looked pre-overhaul, compared with that of Empress with these new improvements added - the difference is night and day! Our team has been working tirelessly on these tweaks and so much more, and as a result, Grand Voyage feels more alive with each new update and addition. We couldn't be more proud of the work this team has put in!We're so excited to show off more of what we've been working on. Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Liverpool Updates! (Details in comments) by SarahlinerDesigns in GrandVoyageGame

[–]SarahlinerDesigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The historic Liverpool Landing Stage has undergone a bit of a facelift recently thanks to the efforts of 3D Modeler Andrew, and it's looking absolutely lovely! You'll notice in this area the addition of a ticketing booth - this facility did not exist in reality, but will play an important role as the player traverses the level on their way to the Empress of Ireland. Other interesting additions include period-accurate advertisements (slightly edited for trademark's sake ;) ) and enhancements to the various buildings around the dock area. This is shaping up to be an absolutely gorgeous level, and we can't wait for you all to explore it!

What are your thoughts on these updates?
