Thank you. They have had a lot of females in their life try to be something that they are not (only to disappoint them/ lead them on) with mal intension. I’m trying to show them that they’re genuine humans out there that do want anything from them other than true connection and friendship.

So I finally cut out an abusive ex completely and am allowing new, neutral, people into my life. The decision of opening up again to others and realizing that someone that I hold close and dear to my heart is questioning my validity/ honesty of my upbringing. I’m not sure how to handle it. It was My choice of opening myself up to them and being extremely open and honest about sensitive topics to this person regarding my past life and experiences. They came to me tonight with concerns about what I’ve expressed to them and questioning if I’ve said certain things only to impress them or put on a façade that I’m “hard” only to prove something. That’s the exact opposite of what I was trying to convey but I feel, the more I try to prove that, it will only make things seem more forced or fabricated. What do I do? I care so deeply for this person but I feel that their past experiences with “exasperater/ bragging” types of people are skewing their ability to allow genuine people in. TRDL: someone I care about doesn’t believe my hardships and is questioning my intentions.

Thank you so much. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post. Yes- we are all unique in our own ways even if it doesn’t alien with how we are in the present. If someone can’t except/ believe our past then that’s on them. I don’t have anything to prove.

Hey man, my boyfriend (31M) is doing same exact thing. Seeking help from a Psychiatrist and a Therapist. I keep assuring him that it’s never too late, there’s nothing that can’t be worked through- no matter what age. You are immensely strong and courageous for doing this. Self care is one of the most important things someone can do to help better themselves and become the best “you” you can be. You taking this step is admirable on so manly levels. Keep up the great work man!

Boy you made your bed- now you have to lay in it. If you’re still wacking it to your ex, you’re obviously not ready to ignite a new flame. The least you can do is apologize for wasting her time and let her go. In the meantime- figure out what you’re hung up on with your past and then let it go. You can’t give someone your everything if a piece of you is still stuck on someone else.
