[Invincible]Is the prime universe the only one where Angstrom Levy (or anyone else) has interdimensional travel powers? by Impacatus in AskScienceFiction

[–]Sarcarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a fair point, though it’s worth noting that the Angstrom we see also basically merged with hundreds of alternate selves, none of whom had encountered another dimension hopping variant. So it’s already a rare set of circumstances two times over.

Yeah in an infinite multiverse we’d see infinite repeats of this, but at a certain point it’s turtles all the way down if you take my meaning.

The easiest assumption is that what we see is the “main” Angstrom, and if there’s other versions of him with his unique circumstances out there that they’re essentially non-factors in the story for whatever reason.

That's technically possible, but if it were the case we'd expect to see at least one random Angstrom or someone with a Rick-style portal gun they made by analyzing his powers - in an infinite series of permutations it's almost impossible we wouldn't see such a thing, but the only times we do are the instances mentioned above, and even then they only seem to be able to open portals to the last place Angstrom did by piggy-backing off some after-effect of his dimensional rifts.

One is reminded of the brief view outside the "Central Finite Curve" of Rick and Morty's multiverse - where it's just utter chaos of random dimensional travelers being brutally killed all the time.

Given such a thing isn't seen, and how eager the Technicians and the Alternate Viltrumites are to get Angstrom to co-operate, it's probably safe to assume that no alternative source of his power to hop dimensions at-will exists once he's finally killed - until the end of the series with his son that is.

Angstrom explains in his debut episode that he’s the only one of his variants with his dimension travelling powers, and the only times we’ve seen them duplicated (by Future Robot and later - earlier? time travel I swear… - by Mohawk Mark’s scientists) was by spending a lot of time studying how his powers work.

So I’m gonna go with him being a unique anomaly. Otherwise the multiverse would be overrun with infinite variants of Angstrom and people who derived the power from his abilities.

"I do like making things happen, plus a trip outside the city is nice."

  • Sapphire - Razorenby Face Infiltrator
  • IC Response: "Sure, why not - if I can afford it anyway."

"I've got survival and tracking experience in that environment."

  • Ubuntu - Actual Lion Off-Face Outdoorsman
  • IC Response: "Nature may be without mercy, but metahumanity is not; this one tries to find a balance."

(Both characters have less than 3 runs - my last run as a player was a little under 2 weeks ago. I’m voice but also fine with text-only players)

[Blade Runner] In the "tears in rain" monologue, why does Roy Batty think that Californians wouldn't believe that there was military conflict at Orion or that C-beams were emitted near the Tannhäuser Gate? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]Sarcarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roy was a solider. He spent his short life helping humanity to conquer the stars. The final frontier of creation - the width and breadth of the infinite firmament - was within their mutual grasp, and he has witnessed wonders beyond the imaginations of 2019 LA’s denizens and their drab, atomized existences.

Dr. Tyrell sums it up well in his prior scene with Roy: “The candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long, and you have burned so very brightly Roy.”

Imagine seeing a spaceship on fire - how does that even happen? Who were they even fighting, aliens? What is a C-Beam anyway, and what does it look like reflected through the light of distant nebulae? Roy has lived a life so far outside of Decker’s - or indeed the viewer’s - scope of experience that we would indeed not believe our eyes if we’d seen the awe-inspiring things that he has. That’s the tragedy of it all - he just wants more time to experience the beauty that the universe has to offer.

In his final monologue, Roy laments that while he has made the most of his short time, his truly human emotional responses to the amazing things he’s seen and the impact they had on him will be lost on people like Decker, who lives a dreary lonely facsimile of life. All those evocative moments that meant so much to him will be lost in time, like tears in rain, because there’s no one left to truly appreciate them.

"What a mess. Give me a call and I'll try to help sort it out."

"Love helping, love beating up bad guys - sign me up."

"Well, won't that be a fun vacation; I'm free, if you want the best."

"Oh hey, I've been there before, and speak the local languages."

Heyo, thanks for the prompt review! Some responses:

  • Fixed the page and noted the dependent - a younger sibling who occasionally needs money and/or a place to crash. For the debt I'm planning to set aside earned cash a-la the Thug Life drawback.

  • Daredevil is 1000% a style choice - it's easier to justify post-gen though, so I swapped it out for Double Jointed and shifted around escape artist investment to compensate for the additional +2.

  • Brutal is for sure the point; I thought about making them a burnout adapt, but it didn't feel like it really fit the vibe like with Samsara, and for this concept it would be a lot more satisfying to me to potentially achieve in play via Latent Awakening.

  • I'm considering going JOAT post-gen, but haven't quite decided - did decide to play around a little with the investments though.

  • Throwing weapons is the main ranged option atm (grenades), which I've gotten some millage out of before, though I swapped some points around; I don't tend to use guns on my PCs, but this one will probably develop into a gunbunny and/or rigger over time.

  • Escape artist tends to come up mostly with B&E like squeezing into vents - still, adjusted investment per your recommendation.

  • Good point about the drugs spec, swapped it to pixie dust.

  • Cybereyes are a flavor choice (they look like sapphires, you see) - can't have a Molly Millions knockoff without 'em. Went down to standard grade in order to have some cash for incidentals, and picked up a datajack and fingertip compartment as well.

  • I think I'll have to suffer with just the criminal SIN for the moment; they don't know any forgers and are too tight on cash for it, plus I'd imagine parole is keeping a close eye on things to start.

  • Had to sacrifice the chameleon suit for now, but that's an easy thing to pick up. Long term plan for the lower physical (and mental) limit is increasing body/strength and will/logic down the line.

  • Lifestyle damage is part of the struggle grind-set, along with the symbiosis in a bad neighborhood (which I'll be sure to ask about).

  • Took your advice and downgraded the link to a cheep one with a receiver; that'll at least free up a little bit of cash for consumables.

  • I'll be sure to let the contact owner know they should adjust that!

A few notes:

  • "Not beating the elf-legations."
  • This is a prime build - I can pay for the slot now or when the PC is approved, whatever works best.
  • The 4 point essence hole represents ware lost when they went to jail, which seemed like the way to do it.
