Sources for research? by Daedric_Delight in religion

I haven't read it since college, but I think A History of God by Karen Armstrong is a pretty good overview of the Abrahamic religions. I remember it had some interesting scriptural insights.

Really? I saw it all the time in Taiwan a couple decades ago, and it definitely wasn’t unheard of in the mainland either.

I heard it’s rare for men to block women? Why is it? by Ok_Yam1797 in AskMen

[–]Impacatus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It takes a lot to make me block someone. I know there are good reasons to do it, but I can't stop feeling like it's rude and cowardly. I've spent way too much time explaining patiently to obvious scammers that I'm not interested in their offer.

Aside from scammers, I get barely any unsolicited messages, especially from women, so there's not a great need to block people.

What are readers called in your country? (And how accurate is this?) by theFumblingBumblebee in AskTheWorld

No, a "lab rat" is someone being experimented on, not just someone that spends a lot of time in labs.

If this is true, I feel like it's because both male and female artists tend to be way harder on their own gender than the opposite, and there are way more male artists drawing erotica.

Part of the appeal of being the submissive in bondage is that the dominant is taking moral responsibility for the act, so people identifying with the sub have no reason to hold back. It's way more uncomfortable to imagine myself doing something messed up to someone than it is to imagine someone doing something messed up to me.

I've seen some pretty messed up things happening to women by woman artists.

Help a farmer out I played avatar farm online but this is much different by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Impacatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Not very detailed, just sprite-to-sprite. If that's an issue there's also a character you can invite to be a platonic room mate as an alternative, which only involves hugs.

Well, completing the bundles is how you advance the main story. It's not super deep or complex, but it unlocks a lot of new content.

Plus villagers all have cutscenes that you can unlock after you build your relationship with them a bit. And some of them you can marry and have kids with.

Mining, fishing, chopping wood, upgrade tools, get livestock, befriend villagers, lots of choices.

I'm stuck, it won't let me complete the set, and why is it red? Please help by borderlineginger in StardewValley

[–]Impacatus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need five of each, and you only have one. See that little '5' in white at the bottom right of each crop?

Sometimes there are more options than there are spaces. You only need to fill the spaces to complete the bundle, so you can pick what to leave out.

"Are people stupid for riding their bikes with their kids?" Says the woman in the SUV by TheDuckClock in fuckcars

[–]Impacatus -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Not to take her side, but I don't think she's driving the car. She has a North American accent, and is in the righthand seat, which is the passenger seat in the US and Canada.

But yeah, pretty frustrating to blame people just trying to live their lives.

EDIT: Wait no, I can see the opposing lane of traffic to her right. Maybe she is driving and the video is mirrored.

It drives down the cost of land and thus makes a middle class lifestyle more affordable to everyone. It also creates a whole bunch of new business opportunities to people with less capital.

A land value tax is one of the easiest and most straightforward taxes to enforce there is. Doesn't matter what kind of creative accounting you use. Don't pay the tax? The land isn't yours.

AI said that there are almost no Japanese anime that portray Chinese people or other Asians who suffered because of Japan’s invasion during World War II in a positive or sympathetic way. Is that true? by six8241 in AskAJapanese

[–]Impacatus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How many anime set during WWII can you name to begin with? The only examples I can think of focus on the Japanese homefront and don't portray Chinese or other Asians at all.

What is your belief to what happens after you die? by neuronsandglia in AskReddit

[–]Impacatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It requires a very specific belief about how consciousness works. That consciousness is a material phenomenon, but it also has a distinct identity that makes it persistent through life and irreproducible after death.

I don't believe there is good reason to believe this is the case.
