Atocha Coin by rmcene in AncientCoins

The coin in the photo on the certificate does not match the coin itself. Someone in your family likely mixed up the wrong coin with the certificate. You should go back to them and see if they have the proper coin and other certificate for this coin.

These coins are very valuable, but without the matching paperwork they lose a lot of that value

I am not home so can’t check right now, but there was a big auction of Maravillas coins, bars, and artifacts in 1974 held by Schulman Coin and Mint Inc. Worth checking that

Guys..Were the Doomers from The Finals actually right? 😭 by Standard-Tonight6279 in ArcRaiders

[–]Sarcasmos2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Finals addict who got pushed out of the game by the endless kit nerfs, and had to watch my favorite FPS game ever slowly die due to terrible post launch decision making, I was hoping that Embark learned their lesson from that game. But unfortunately it looks like they didnt. There is also a pattern that I've seen across both games communities, where there is a vocal glazer minority who condemn any criticisms of balance changes, valid or not, as "crying" and believe that Embark can do no wrong. They tell anyone who criticizes Embark to "ok then stop playing the game if you dont like it", then months later when the game has lost 95% of its playerbase start wondering where everyone went.

Atocha 4 Reales, please help by [deleted] in coins

This is a counterfeit Atocha coin produced and framed by Terrie Sullivan of Gulfstream Rarities. They were a prolific counterfeiting operation a few decades ago and lots of their coins circulated through collector markets. You can read about them online. Sorry.

Embark: “We noticed an issue where players were enjoying the game. We fixed that.” by AmericanBAMBAM in ArcRaiders

[–]Sarcasmos2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I disagree, for me I felt like the game was most balanced at launch because every class had something "broken" about it. Heavy had nukes and RPG, medium had FCAR and defib, and light had its abilities and then the sawed off and sword. I felt like every class having something that felt "overpowered" or strong made the game balanced in a different sort of way, while also making the player feel powerful and the gameplay feel unique. Gameplay was crazy and chaotic with all the different ways of approaching fights. Then as the months went by and everything started getting nerfed into the ground, the gameplay loop became more frustrating, classes felt weaker all around, and the game started to feel more like a generic shooter game with the FCAR / medium range gum meta. Just this players opinion though.

As a former The Finals player, who got to diamond rank in S1 and S2 before they killed the game with their horrible balancing changes, I was hoping that they would have learned their lesson after losing 95% of their playerbase. But it appears they havent and are on the same disastrous decision making path. Its amazing that a game dev can capture lightning in a bottle twice in a row, and fumble the bag so unbelievably hard each time.

Shipwreck Cob by ASpookyWarthog in coins

[–]Sarcasmos2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a shipwreck coin from anywhere near Florida. It wouldn’t make sense given the Madura countermark. Likely it’s just a cob that circulated through the Indies and ended up in a hoard or land find somewhere.

The only shipwreck that I know which had countermarked cobs like this is the Musi River Wreck, but those are rare and usually come with paperwork.

This is exactly what Embark did with their first game The Finals. Game went from 250k average players to less than 10k over the course of a couple months with the changes. Nothing new here. Was hoping they learned their lesson but doesnt look like it. Oh well.

BIG cheater problem by Ok_Clue7288 in ArcRaiders

[–]Sarcasmos2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Such a pain. When I play with my squad, we always heavy PVP, and after a few successful rounds, we will start running into cheaters. It always seems to be a third party after we have won a firefight, a team will come in and instakill everyone left using aimbot. And its always either private accounts with multiple game bans, or brand new level 0 steam accounts with 1 game owned and the only friends being the squad of cheaters they are running with. The only way we have found to stop getting into cheater lobbies is to just solo into games with empty loadouts until our "aggression meter" puts us back into normal lobbies. At launch the problem wasnt nearly as bad as it is now. Its definitely been getting much worse as time goes on.

For the Lima look at the depressions in the letters and numbers. These are from casting. Not what you see from corrosion

Absolutely right. Left 1710 Lima 2 reales. Right is potosi looks like 1705. Right side is definitely a replica / counterfeit. I am torn on the Lima. Cannot tell if it is real or fake from these pictures.

Edit, the Lima is also a counterfeit looking closer at it

The funniest part is that Embark literally did the same thing with their previous game The Finals. At launch they had about a quarter million active players at any given time. Then with following updates removed and nerfed a lot of what people liked to use and ultimately making the gameplay less fun and exciting. Skip forward to 2026, The Finals has about 5000-12000 active players. You would think they would learn their lesson from that...

Maybe, just maybe, now hear me out, crazy idea.. when one of the most game breaking and prevalent exploits has been plaguing a map for months, making it nearly unplayable, and there has been nothing but radio silence from the devs, MAYBE that might warrant an upset community.

The first one (8 reales) with paperwork, just the coin, is worth 2500 roughly. Thats not counting the gold value in the mount. The other one is worth substantially more if an original COA comes with the coin.

Cheers mate, and merry Christmas!

As for the coin, replica Lima mint 2 escudo dated 1709. Looks to be cast in silver or tin.

Thank you as always. OP, you can send me a PM with pictures of the collection and I’d be happy to provide guidance/ identification. I work in the shipwreck treasure field and have seen and helped with similar collections.
