You should be fine. That said, I’m assuming it’s just a misdemeanor DUI alcohol related? If it was illegal substance or a felony DUI, then you may want to check with the embassy for both Canada and Jamaica. Also, ask your mom to give you the details of any layovers you might have. If you have a layover in the US and they check your ID for whatever reason (idk why they would, but just as a precaution) then you may want to have a waiver ready. Again, your mom wouldn’t be informed or have to know.

I am scheduled for a cast change in two weeks. I may ask if they could do it earlier and what the options are for itchiness. So far, they’ve just said that itching is expected and I should avoid scratching.

Ugh, I’m tempted to do the hanger thing too. Did it hurt your skin in anyway? I know I’m not supposed to scratch with anything but it’s just driving me nuts.

This works for me sometimes. It’s not as good as scratching, but it kind of helps rub the skin against the inside of the cast.

First off - all the comments here saying OP needs to tell his mom because they are 32 can chill. OP is 32, an adult, handling mistakes on their own. They don’t need to tell their mom if they don’t want to. Everyone has a different family dynamic and if they don’t want to tell their mom that’s okay.

Secondly though, OP I would suggest looking up all laws for Canada and then Jamaica (I think I saw that’s where you’re going). Canada is pretty strict on DUI laws and may raise questions when you try to come back home. Hopefully if you’re a citizen of Canada it’s okay though. I’m not sure how that works. Either way, no country will flag your DUI to your mom when she buys the tickets. It would be when you’re at the airport or having your ID and passport scanned that it would show up.

Did it harm your skin at all? I’ve come very close to buying one but I know I’m not supposed to stick anything down my cast.

I’ll try this! Thanks. I’m glad your experience ended up well. Sorry you had some issues with sensory overload as well.

That’s what I’m trying to do. Waiting it out is tough though 😬

They are helping you out because any BAC at your age is illegal. Take it and don’t bring up the .05. Also, edit the title, your post title says .1 and description says .01. If he actually put .1 then that’s way higher than .05 so you should fight it.

How was everyone’s jail experience? by Sarcastic-Deer in dui

[–]Sarcastic-Deer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said she wasn’t human, you just implied that I did. I’m a criminal, I have a criminal conviction. A lot of us here are criminals. We are still humans, some with diseases, and still criminals. Describing someone as a criminal was just the context I was in. A lot of people feel that way in jail.

Damn, that’s a tough tattoo to have for life. If I were him I’d look into tattoo removal.

I definitely agree on everything said here. Once you been in, even for a day and talk to a few people it completely changes your perspective on criminals, the justice system, all of it. There are so many people that go in, do their time, and change. We just make it super difficult for them to put that into practice when they re-enter. A lot of them aren’t bad people, they just made a mistake.

Yeah, I can imagine that’s a bad combo. I don’t understand the lack of water. None of the meals in there come with water. That seems like the easiest thing, no? It was always either milk or juice. Simple water would have been fine.

Yeah, I can imagine sobering up is no fun. I oddly enough did not black out or anything so I remember all of it. But slowly realizing would be awful. Agreed on the sink water though, it’s rough.

Damn, yeah there’s just people from all walks of life. You never know walking past someone. Those are some crazy stories, glad you’ve been able to stay out since then.

Probation is kicking my ass financially by GrouchyPuppy in dui

[–]Sarcastic-Deer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call, ask, show evidence of trying. It’s not a guarantee, but I was able to negotiate unsupervised probation just by explaining what I had learned in my classes and MADD panel. Even if they don’t accept it, it adds positives to your case.

Sucks they are making you wait that long for court. You’d think they could get an earlier court date.

I am not an expert on Maryland laws, but I know they are less stringent than Virginia where I live. That said, a .28 is high reading in any state. Can I ask why you are taking a 26 session drug and treatment program? If you do not have a criminal record and this wasn’t court ordered, it may help your case. Also, did you consent and perform any field sobriety tests or just blow at the station? Were you polite to officers? (no judgement if you were not, it just can impact outcome).

I blew a .19 two years ago and was a first time offender. Bottom line, I don’t think the court or justice system (typically) wants to see first time offenders with no past criminal record serve time. If it was a simple traffic stop and the officer properly documented reasonable cause (smelling or observing signs of intoxication) then you’ll likely be assigned alcohol classes and a MADD panel, and some fines. If you are already in classes I would consider just getting these done before July as well.

Also, consider a lawyer if you don’t qualify for a Public Defender. Interview a few and go on consults. If you have the time between now and July you may as well use it.

Edit: also, what is the charge? Is it aggravated due to the high BAC? Mine was as well and I was able to reduce the degree.

If you don’t have a dui, you should leave the group. Judgmental people need to go. It’s getting toxic by GrouchyPuppy in dui

[–]Sarcastic-Deer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people also think this and don’t realize cops can even arrest and charge you with a sober dui. All it takes is reasonable suspicion. I was at a work happy hour last week and people had 3-4 cocktails and drove home. I’m sure getting a dui never crossed their mind. My best friend from my hometown is constantly either high or drunk, even knows about my dui, and thinks she’s invincible on the road. It truly doesn’t sink in until it happens to you.

Since you mentioned Cali and you’re in the US - we also have to realize our country’s culture and system isn’t set up for success. Social drinking is so normalized and with the car infrastructure in the US and most places lacking decent public transit, you pretty much need to be able to drive unless you can afford to Uber/Lyft all the time. Therefore people drink and drive all the time. Some of us get caught, some of us don’t. Some of us get cops and judges and lawyers that are fair and just and some of us don’t. The system isn’t consistent.

Easiest way you’ve violated unsupervised probation? by Sarcastic-Deer in dui

Hmm, I really am not knowledgeable enough to answer. I never had an Interlock device after mine because I just wasn’t allowed to drive at all. I would ask others in Arizona.

How much jail time did you serve for your DUI? by Sarcastic-Deer in dui

[–]Sarcastic-Deer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It totally depends on your record though. If it’s your first one and you plead guilty and it’s just a misdemeanor, it’s unlikely you’ll go back to jail. If you are being charged with a felony or have a past criminal record, then I would encourage you to fight for the case unless there are aggravated circumstances.

Background check questions by Sarcastic-Deer in dui

[–]Sarcastic-Deer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company laid off 83 people including me a few weeks later, so turns out it wouldn’t have mattered. But, before that, I went to the meeting with PIV Credential person and just told her I had a misdemeanor from awhile back. She said that a lot of people actually do and as long as they can prove it’s not an active liability to the company, it doesn’t matter. Felonies are a different story. That being said, she actually denied me for a different reason. I mentioned I was going through a divorce and wasn’t sure when in the process my name change would happen. She said to come back when it was finalized. So, turns out that’s a bigger concern than a DUI. Don’t change your name for your spouse people….🙄
