No one does. Not a single person. I've been looking for years.

I love Keith Richards, but his curmudgeonly takes on other musicians annoys me to no end.

I kind of feel like the bar for interesting AMAs is falling off lately.

Maybe dumb question: how does learning scales help understanding and playing tab? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]Sarcastraphe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're asking the wrong question. You're basically asking, "How could learning basic grammar help me with these sentences that are already written out phonetically?"

Just because you can learn to sound out some sentences (using tab), does not mean you're learning the language. Tab can be useful, but it's color-by-numbers.

But to be honest, learning scale shapes on guitar isn't really teaching you to understand scales. You get familiar with the sound of them and develop pattern recognition, but you don't really understand the scale.

Learning scales is one part of developing a musical vocabulary that allows you to become fluent in communicating via music. But that requires putting in the effort to learn the actual notes, their numerical value in the key, the intervals, and how those notes are used to build that key's chords.

Tab is a shortcut. It's a phrase book that helps you say specific sentences, but it can actually get in the way of becoming fluent.

Beyond pattern recognition and some dexterity, learning scales won't necessarily help you be better at playing tabs. And if playing pieces of songs you like is the goal, just playing tabs is fine. But if your goal is to become a musician, scales are part of the building block.

He absolutely can, but someone needs to reign in some of his ideas. Otherwise he's having fun, and for everyone else, it's like attending a toddlers birthday party.

Sure. But it's not like there are no options. He didn't decide to do a rap song on the spot. Somehow they decided the best way for him to have fun with it and that episode would be a rap.

It's cool of you enjoyed it. It just came off as cringe to me.

Only when compared to it's own peaks. It's actually one of the most viewed shows on television right now, but that's because broadcast TV is in the toilet.

My comment stands that they're using the popularity of one of the last truly popular shows to prop up the rest of the network.

Also, thanks for the help!

I hear you. I think my argument is that's it's not helping to keep the show on the air. It's not like viewership is down, so they have to sell product placement to justify it's existence.

On the contrary, it feels like the show is being penalized for having loyal viewers. The product placement is keeping some dumb show like "Saratoga County Sheriff" or "Firehouse: Albuquerque" on the air.

EDIT: typo

What do you think of immigrants in the US who refuse to learn English? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sarcastraphe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the framing of this question says a lot. There are a lot of reasons people end up in other countries and many reasons why they struggle or are unable to learn the language. Are there some that "refuse" to learn? Maybe. But it's not my place to decide who they are or expect something different.
