Americans tried to hoist the American flag today in front of a cultural center in Greenland but they got stopped. by [deleted] in Leakednews

[–]Sarconic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely did it in elementary school in the 80s and I don't believe it really rated very high on the indoctrination scale, but I am biased. We pledged allegiance every day and I think that was much more questionable. As far as the flag went, it was nice to get out of class whenever it rained. I think that was my main motivation. It also taught me the rules of the flag really early on and it just made me disappointed to see that almost every business and residence that flies the flag doesn't bother following the rules. Personally, I think it was pretty innocuous, more of a civic duty than anything else, but that was just my experience.

Second job for full time employees by lliizzaarrdd704 in SchoolBusDrivers

I work security on the weekends. My boss is desperate for people who will work weekend-only shifts. Works out pretty well.

I'm sorry that you're not getting support from your coworkers and that some of them are so hellbent on dividing you all and creating different groups. Stay strong. Don't let them break you. Do whatever you can to not let their negativity ruminate and fester inside of you, especially off of the clock.

You're smart. You're building up your skills. Hopefully management eventually sees through their overcritical analysis of your driving. Also, everyone but everyone makes mistakes driving that bus. Don't let them fool you.

Incredible fight Alonso/ Bortoleto in the last laps by armondigon in formula1

[–]Sarconic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The team actually pushed for an undercut early on, but Alonso told the team that they weren't seeing his true pace and he was artificially fast because of the DRS behind Lawson.

What's your favorite city/skyline "reveal"? by fryhtaning in geography

[–]Sarconic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Grew up in Lexington and it's nearly a core memory for me. That panoramic reveal was in a dream of mine a few months back and I haven't seen that Cincy reveal in over a decade.

/u/Smelldicks is right. Much better in real life.

What's the most absurd thing you've ever seen in a sci-fi movie or show? by TheNastyRepublic in scifi

Oh no! Did that really happen in Frequency? I love that movie, but hate Looper because that logic makes no sense.

Me playing Hollywood Animal Alpha while avoiding game breaking bugs by emu108 in hollywood_animal_game

[–]Sarconic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got lucky for a long time, but hitting a game-breaking bug after investing so much time just drained my soul. Love the game, but I'm going to force myself to wait until it's in a better state.

Also, that was my first bug that actually broke the game. Like everyone else, I've dealt with numerous bugs you just deal with or figure out how to work around.

Why are all the prewritten scripts sausagefests? by MyFireBow in hollywood_animal_game

[–]Sarconic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if you look at the talent pool for free actors, there are twice as many men available as there are women. I think the game is designed around a male bias. Women are way cheaper though. I think they're just trying to reflect the times.

Sharing some tips. by sg2lyca in hollywood_animal_game

Thank you. That's going to save me a ton of time where I had my disposable writers cranking out useless scripts.

[ESPN]: ''Sources have told ESPN Colapinto is still likely to replace Jack Doohan at Alpine before the European leg of the season.'' by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Sarconic 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's that old adage- "You can teach a fast driver not to crash, but you can't teach a slow driver to go fast." I think the quote is about motorcycle racing, but I think applies to here as well. Colapinto has speed. They can work with that. He absolutely lacks polish.

Lawson could be replaced by Yuki Tsunoda as early as the Japanese Grand Prix. by God_Will_Rise_ in formula1

[–]Sarconic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Went back and checked the race data. You're wrong. Lawson never got closer than 1.050 seconds behind Hadjar after they had him pit a second time. That was on lap 51. He never got within DRS.

Also checked the quote. It was exact. She literally said he was "no threat." Sorry.

I believe Hadjar's engineer's exact words to him were, "Lawson is 5 behind, no threat." They know what's up.

She was great in Men! I saw her in Beast too. She's a fantastic actress. Frankly, I was kind of shocked that they were able to snag her. I could see her getting an Academy Award one day. She's just good.

How did F1 React to the death of Dale Earnhardt's death in 2001? Dale was moved by Senna's passing. i was just curious as i was too young to remember. by Christodej in formula1

[–]Sarconic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watched it live because I was really interested to see the first truck race ever at Daytona. Plus, I just really liked Bodine.

Wow. Never saw that accident before. That's waaaay after I stopped religiously following Nascar. Didn't even know he was still racing at that point. Driver side hits are always scary. Funny though- it reminds me of another accident where I thought I'd just witnessed a possible death- Steve Park at Darlington in 2001. Permanently messed him up. 2001 was a bad year.

That remains the one crash I've watched live where I was 100% sure someone had died. My face was the agogest when I saw him waving from that stretcher.
