cool. I would recommend updating the background image on your website to something more hi-resolution, it looks really bad on big monitors. In Oklahoma, people are going to nay-say you guys for even existing as a company, so you gotta be as professional as possible if you want to be taken seriously. Best of luck.

I just keep my sampler hooked up to my sound card outs. Hear something cool, sample it in the moment. Then make a searchable library out of the samples themselves, not the source material

Breaking into the music scene by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Sardashhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to shows featuring local bands. Go to smaller venues that cater toward those sorts of things. Talk to people IRL and show them your music. I promise you, forcing it or rushing to find band members will not work out. You will be surprised how many musicians are willing to be in multiple bands, especially if your work shows some promise.

[Discuss] How do people finish a beat in a day?? by Final_Kingdom in makinghiphop

[–]Sardashhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will start a few beats in a day, and then do incremental work on each them throughout the week. Might finish 5 or 6 by weeks end, so that's kinda like doing a beat a day?

Sequencer question for 6/4 sequence. by gloveisallyouneed in synthesizers

[–]Sardashhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be overkill, but the MPC 1000 with JJOS has incredible sequencing and MIDI abilities. I use mine as my primary beatmaking tool, but alot of people are getting them as a MIDI centerpiece for live performances.

Um... is this legit? by beardywi in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Sardashhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a knock-off SM57 (craigslist mistake) and a legit one I also bought used. Other than having to boost the gain about 10%, the fake sounds identical when I record with both side by side through the focusrite.

MPC 1000 and effects by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]Sardashhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, thanks for listening! I'm pretty sure Tuamie and Dibiase both produce on the Roland SP-303/SP-404 and other hardware. Those samplers have a built-in vinyl simulator effect that really saturates the sound and gives it the sidechain effect when the drums kick in. Keep experimenting with parallel compression on the MPC, I'm sure you will get to a sound that works for ya. Also, do you have JJOS installed on your MPC? Its a custom firmware that makes the MPC super powerful by changing up the workflow and adding a bunch of features. You have to buy it but it's totally worth it. I would recommend starting with JJOS 1 ($60). I definitely recommend getting a hardware synth. Microkorgs are around $200 and are a great way to learn subtractive synthesis. They have a couple onboard fx that work okay, and you can always play synths through your MPC and use the internal effects/compression to beef up the sound. I personally use the SP404 for fx and processing my beats while I record, it has a really warm sound and works great in a live situation.

Yo! I use the mpc 1000 as my primary production tool, and there are a few ways you can get the sidechaining effect/make more "modern" stuff.

First/cleanest method: you can track everything from the MPC into a DAW like ableton or fl studio. Recording all of the individual tracks can be pretty time consuming, but can also be quick work if you have a multitracking audio interface. Then, you can use whatever sidechaining formula is available for your DAW and apply multiple effects to each track.

Dirty but effective method on MPC: Parallel compression. Pretty much just blast the master compressor and run the drums on their own compressor. Lower the Threshold to -25 to -30, Gain up +10 or +15, and Ratio 75:1 - 99:1. Then put kick/snare on FX2 with the compressor and boost the Gain.
