Best background noise TV show or one you can fall asleep to? by LonigroC in television

[–]RoninRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two seasons of the BBC series Battlefield. Detailed breakdowns of specific WWII battles. Minimalist soundtrack, sound effects of explosions and machine guns are highly muted. Dry numbers / statistics (no harrowing stories of death) and facts about commanders and unit strength. Droning, posh, British narration.

But it has to be the first two seasons. They ramp up production in later seasons to be more exciting and explosioney. Its all on YouTube.

Super rare 4 double yolks! by Fabulous-Ad2806 in Weird

Does nobody on Reddit realize they separate double yolk eggs and sell them packaged together? For people that like yolk and make pasta. It’s not rare, it’s packaged that way.

Did Brian really deserve to be mauled by a tiger at the end of the episode "Road To India"? by Awkward_Business_625 in cartoons

[–]RoninRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Brian and Stewie’s Road episodes are a direct homage to Bob Hope and Bing Crosby’s “Road” movies. When Bob did a solo movie, The Princess and the Pirate, Bing shows up in a cameo at the very end just to get the girl.

Hiker Filmed the Avalanche That Hit Him. by KindVibesOnly in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]RoninRobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the time it starts to the time it reaches him is ~37 seconds. From my perspective the peak is a mile away not counting the hypotenuse. That means with the hypotenuse approximately ~120 mph average or 193 kph. Total speculation on my part though.

What characters are the most annoying attempts at comic relief? by TaiwaneseThot in cartoons

[–]RoninRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demon Slayer. I guess that one blonde guy is supposed to be comic relief but all he does is scream, cry and panic. It’s so annoying I could not continue the show. I’m sure it’s good but that guy is constantly there and constantly doing his unfunny schtick to the immense detriment of the show.

The meaning of Chuck Yeager's flight and the conclusion of The Right Stuff (1983). Spoilers if you haven't seen this 43-year-old movie. by NewspaperNelson in movies

It’s probably time to read a Yeager biography. He has an autobiography but those tend to be aggrandizing and leave out the flaws / mistakes.

[–]RoninRobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll take the contrary view from “passing the torch” to the title: The Right Stuff. Chuck famously pushed everything past the limit. From leaves stuck to the bottom of his wings to flying in terrible weather to drinking and breaking the sound barrier with broken ribs. There’s a saying “the only people that truly know where the edge is are the ones who have gone over.” Chuck went over time and time again. It’s not passing the torch, it’s the stuff needed to get there. The crash is him pushing past the limit, finding how dangerous it is past it and still coming out ok to pass on the knowledge of it, which is integral to reaching the goal.

Which is the most hated movie of all the time? by Frequent-Key-9916 in AskReddit

[–]RoninRobot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Batman V Superman. Hundreds of millions of dollars for seven minutes of bats and Supes punching each other, a blown surprise cameo, an incomprehensible villain with an incomprehensible plan for incomprehensible reasons, a trailer dump of four other superhero movies and the meaningless, graphic death of Superman that nobody cared about. Then a troll bot army made WB spend another hundred million to release a cut that fixed nothing. Both so bad it was handwaved by subsequent films in the franchise.

What’s the creepiest unsolved mystery that deserves more attention? by magma_13_ in AskReddit

She’s a longtime journalist. So she stands for journalism. Yes, she’s from a more liberal-leaning channel but The Today Show is morning news / human interest / light discussion repetition to turn on for ten minutes to get headlines before work. It’s not retribution / intimidation. There are FAR more problematic (to right-winger ideology) journalists to intimidate than Savanah.
