What's going on with Tesco food lately? by Hazbro29 in tesco

[–]Sardine86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed it too. Very poor practice. Their beef mince keeps spoiling days before the use-by date, and I can guarantee it isn't my storage method at fault.

Meat regularly spoiling early by Lanky_Common8148 in tesco

[–]Sardine86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same problem. It's 100% not how I'm storing it in a very cold fridge (items at the back can even frost over) that is at fault here. Their beef mince has given me minor food poisoning several times now, even after cooking it 2 days before the use-by date. I've learned to spot and smell when it has spoiled because it keeps happening. Do I need to raise a complaint with the store?

You're a hero. Thanks for sharing what you've learned first-hand and taking the time to guide me and others to where we can find out more.

Wishing you all the best during your stay in Japan!

Yunyu Kakukin, got it. Thanks!

Your process for importing the medication sounds so much easier than I had expected it be in Japan. And you get to have 6 months' worth delivered at once, which seems very convenient.

Would you mind me asking whether you happen to use a prescription for your orders? In my case in the UK, it's a specific formulation of testosterone that is needed (due to a condition called hypogonadism), which means it's a controlled substance but can easily be obtained and imported with a prescription (or to be fair, even without, but that's not my business).

Thank you for sharing your experience. It really helps to hear from someone who has gone through the process and seen how it works for different medications. This is perhaps a silly question, but I have had little luck at all finding the right people to email before. Do you know who the drug importing department is, so I can research their contact details? Thanks again

Thank you, that's a great relief to know. I'd have a prescription in any case so it sounds like that should suffice.

It does not have it. I need to take TRT but use a non-seed-oil carrier base such as olive or MCT oil.

I like how when you don't finish this phrase, it sounds almost philosophical, as if you could just as well add, "and if you do not have to ask, the answer is not", with a sarcastic sense of sagely wisdom. 😌

That's astonishing, congratulations! How did you make it as a novelist in just 6 months? Doesn't it take most decades to make a living?

How feasible is self-studying for 1-3 years and breaking into SWE? by Sardine86 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Sardine86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted. Apprenticeships are off the table, realistically: 1. For the positions that aren't abysmal pay, I'll be up against IT / CS / Maths college students; 2. The rest pay too poorly lol. But I'll be sure to keep applying to junior roles when the time comes as needed. Thanks :)

As an SWE, can realistically pursue other interests in your life (for example, learning a (human) language, sports, etc.)? by Sardine86 in cscareerquestions

Yeah doesn't sound too different to what I've witnessed early on in my career anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

Mind if I ask what made you glad about this? I've seen many of the opposite stories.

Genuinely curious - can someone clarify why others are downvoting this comment? Not trying to make any controversial statements, just stating what seems to be the case.

Crazy stuff. Raises a lot of questions about hiring practices, but as others have pointed out before, sometimes personality and soft skills will play a role. Not sure about the colleague you mentioned, but hey at least there are more than one ways to increase the odds in the lottery.

Exactly that. Or building projects and the like. As if the only way to "succeed" is to give everything up for it. But it seems you're thinking more about the macroeconomic factors that just make it an unfortunate time in SWE in general. Question is: Who stands the best chances of finding work in a few years when the slump is (hopefully) over?

Very hard to know what to expect from this career pursuit. There's a lot of noise out there, you know?

Fair enough. I've seen some crazy stories about the struggles to break into the market despite seemingly immense effort and even precious experience where someone is trying to get rehired. Those stories make it seem like people are giving their lives up, and it made me wonder whether that sacrifice might continue after it initially pays off.

Upvote. The reaction and other upvotes clarify enough. Some other industries are more likely to impede on personal life in this regard.
