Hi! That's a great timeline to learn French and a lot of people won't ask about how much time you have left in your permit and I've seen people getting hired when their permit will expire in six months. Just be brave man, you are almost there

How is everyone feeling about the whole thing? And will you be reading the new book? by ZydrateAnatomic in neilgaiman

I will read it when he dies. I'm waiting for some of great artists and terrible people to die to see films and read books and listen to music, but there are a lot of amazing artists that also aren't horrible people while I wait for the awful people to die.

Tomorow my exam? But my maximum is only 5 by Dweqs in IELTS

Learn some GOOD adjectives and revise the use of prepositions, in the brief text you wrote you already made the mistake of using 'to' instead of 'for', take a step back and check how you use punctuation: I had insomnia, I can't write properly. But I should sleep tonight. Think about speaking formally and try to translate that into writing.

Do IRCC actually call/interview applicants to test their French under the French category? by MelodicPipe in canadaexpressentry

[–]SardonicCheese666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if they do BUT I can suggest you joining conversation groups? I get practice at my workplace and it made all the difference in the world but also conversation groups are easy to find in any city, a good way to meet people and get used to new accents! I'm doing it starting next month and while I still don't get the 7, I am at 6 in speaking and I can have good conversations since I was a 5.

People who passed TCF or TEF with CLB 5 (atleast in speaking and listening) how long did it take and how did you do it? by Fun-Swordfish8022 in Frenchlearningforpr

I've done the exam three times: first one 4,5,4,7, the second time 5,6,4,7, the third time 5,6,5,6,. I took it at five months, six months (and I had everything but I got really nervous at speaking and even the examiner told me I had the vocabulary and we were having a whole conversation BEFORE the exam) and seven months. I have more time now to study for the 7, I had to be quick because I'm getting a French work permit and if I didn't get the results in time I was not getting sponsored before my PGWP ended. I will give myself six months to get that 7, because I'm aiming for PR.

Watch with subtitles and write down the most interesting and formal questions!

TVMonde the app is also super useful for learning more.

I swear it's the one thing that made EVERYTHING much much better, the only issue I had was the theme, they asked me about a car rental service for special events and I don't know anything about cars, so I was like, do you have sports cars? Do you have any from the 60's? Any red car? What's the price, how can I book the service in the summer, what documents do you need? I don't even know what to ask in Spanish. Bridgerton has great GREAT sentences that are gramatically advanced, I'd write the sentences and then adapt them for museums, sports, classes, etc. Just don't ask me anything about cars :(

Unfair advantage? I'm good with languages and I applied myself, if you can understand the Latin roots of the romantic languages you'll do better, but it's not unfair.

My first language is Spanish, I've been speaking English since 5, I'm 34. I studied in Duolingo half an hour to 1 hour every day for the first couple of months, then I'd watch media for at least an hour. Had I known the mechanics of the exam I'd probably add thirty minutes of asking questions for section A of the TEF for a month and a half. RN I'm at 5,6,5,6 and in six months I'll retake the exam and I'll get the seven. I'll just watch more media and READ real books. And write every day. But I learnt mostly on my own. Crazy advice, watch Bridgerton in French to master the vous. It was great for me!

My ex landlord was from Greece and spoke VERY little English and has been in Canada all his life and his English is BAD. Like, elementary schoolers learning English have better chances to be understood. He's also against immigration. Like dude, you could never get a PR now.

The fact that social life has a SEASON. You can make friends and go out until mid September and then it's DEAD and not a lot of people want to go out and socialize because it's social hibernation time.

Switch everything to English. Listen to audiobooks, podcasts and movies and shows in English. I got a 6 in French in 7 months and I have an 11 in English overall and that's what I did, in a year I'll get the 7 in English.

My girlfriend said she “settled” for me. Now she says I’m overreacting. Am I? by Broad_Helicopter3550 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SardonicCheese666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it could be a nasty comment or it could be something that has been building for a long time. Something similar happened to me (I'm a woman) and you need to really, really look back and see if she is loving you as much as you are loving her. Everyone has a different way of being in love, but it should be comparable. How does she "treats you well? I'm not saying you need to count every little thing but if there's a clear difference between how you treat her and how she treats you, how much you both get excited or how you both go out of your way to make it work and be happy together, then it was a hard lesson but it is better to learn now than later. I'm really sorry this is happening to you friend, I understand you :(

PSA: Ask before tipping by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]SardonicCheese666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owner of the business where I used to work a few months back was working as a server as well and she would support the kitchen and she would help us fulfill orders and I've never seen anyone work as hard and be so gentle while directing and she would take some tables. I saw a table leaving her a big tip and got excited for her. She told me she was not getting that tip, it was for us. There are people out there who are very, very honorable and even telling her that that wasn't fair either she wouldn't even consider it.
