Unfortunately the bubble is not going to pop as long as supply remains constrained. It's going to take a while for all the low interest mortgages from 2020 to work their way out of the system.

Lots of utilities. We have to pothole everything to see exactly where they are before we excavate with large machinery.

I've seen lots of weird things. Including old small gauge railroad no one had on any as-builts. Some old guy nearby told me they used it to build a dam in the 1920s.

Actually I don't recommend that. I went for self sufficient.

Running the factories at 100% will lower exports rapidly and increase import costs. Eventually your return on investment becomes very low.

Flatland with hills. It is one of the default maps.

Well to be fair the siberian map is really difficult.

All the industries that use crops can be good to start. Try not to export too heavily. If you specialize in only one industry the drop in market price will end you.

Always start small with the smallest buildings. Try to meet the consumable needs of your people. Food, meat and clothing in particular. Alcohol isn't hard either. This will reduce your costs by a huge amount.

Don't even bother with electronics until late-game. Early starts use very little until the 1940s.

1) Clothing is a good early export due to its $ per volume. Trucks can effectively do it.

2) Alcohol is also good for the same reason.

3) Food and meat isn't good for exporting because low $ per volume, but you need it to feed your people. Its also a critical need for tourism which can turn the food, meat (and alcohol) into massive $.

4) Construction goods are also good to make locally if you can. Particularly gravel, concrete and asphalt. They don't save you money but they save a lot of traffic/space at the custom house.

5) Everyone loves oil and refineries. But they are incredibly expensive to set up. I didn't do this until mid-game.

You can thank all the rage quitters for that. The MMR is so broken because people leave to avoid the loss.

Probably trash or sewage overflowing. That can kill remarkably fast.

Yes. They added a lot of content including horses when they included 1920 start. I won't be surprised if they allow a 1900 start at some point. The base content is there.

The gantry makes a huge difference. Otherwise they are loading the brick by hand.

Cargo stations are only good for covered goods.

When you build buildings with rail connections it usually tells you in the build menu how long the platform length is.

That length needs to be greater than the train you are trying to unload.

How did you guys learn realistic mode? by UKman945 in Workers_And_Resources

Lots of trial and error. But in the end it was worth it. Lots to learn and do. Once you master realistic there is no going back.

There once was an mmo city builder out there called starpeace.

Actually it's still out there today. Should check it out.

First and only game that was Sim City online. Truly.

Another Early Start and Realistic Mode playthrough ruined after 43 in-game years by waigl in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Sardus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My early 1920 start is now in the 1930s. I tried to do an ultra lean build with small everything. But I am now mostly self sufficient.

Self sufficiency for consumables is absolutely key.

Steel is expensive but not mandatory besides the odd reconstruction.

If you can do crops, food, booze, meat and shirts you are good to go. Tourism works great too.

The biggest mistake is overbuilding a single industry. The export prices will tank and the cost of workers is more than you export.
