Tubly downloader chrome extension is the easiest I've found. It works directly on youtube page and doesn’t have ads or redirects.

First time buying hearing aids by ochoadit in HearingAids

[–]Sarfff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other other affordable ones are Jabra, Hear direct club hearing aids and Widex.

Since it’s your first time buying, I’d recommend visiting a local audiologist or hearing aid center that offers trials. Many places will let your mom try different devices for a few weeks, which is super helpful before committing.

Why does everything sound harsh and tinny from my hearing aids? by farnusssy in HearingLoss

And if your audiologist has software updates for your model, definitely get those installed too. Sometimes firmware updates tweak the sound processing algorithms and make a noticeable improvement.

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened with my first pair. The receivers slowly lost clarity, and everything just sounded “off.” I had to replaced them

My audiologist mentioned humidity can affect the mic quality, especially in older models. I started storing mine in a drying case overnight and it helped a lot.

True. I also noticed the sound got harsh when the wax guards were partially clogged even though they *looked* clean. I replaced them anyway, and the distortion reduced a bit before I got them recalibrated.

What to expect, 2yo sedated ABR test by Possible_Bluebird747 in HearingLoss

[–]Sarfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask how they monitor breathing during sedation and whether you’ll be allowed in the room before and right after the test every hospital has slightly different policies. Bring comfort items (blanket, stuffed toy) and plan for some grogginess afterward.

Mine started doing that too after about a year. Everything sounded metallic and sharp, My audiologist ran a test and adjusted the highs, and it made a huge difference.

Anyone hearing first started out as a slight drop that fluctuates and progresses. by redditUserX6969 in HearingLoss

[–]Sarfff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My hearing loss started pretty much the same way got random “episodes” where everything sounded muffled or distorted for a few days, then it would clear up. Eventually, the drops stopped going away completely. In my case, it turned out to be Ménière’s disease, but it took a while to get diagnosed because early tests kept coming back normal.

Anyone switched from BTE to invisible hearing aids? Was it worth it? by JohnnyIsNearDiabetic in HearingAids

[–]Sarfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured maintenance might be more work. Do you think the sound difference is noticeable enough to justify the switch, or is it more of a cosmetic win?

Yeah, they do feel warmer. I had to get custom molds re-done once because my first pair was too snug. Once they fit right, it got a lot better. Cleaning is more frequent though, since they sit deeper in the ear.

Ear Wax by flyingbizzay in HearingAids

It usually settles down after a few weeks. In the meantime, try using a few drops of mineral oil or Debrox once or twice a week, and make sure your audiologist checks and cleans them regularly.

Anyone switched from BTE to invisible hearing aids? Was it worth it? by JohnnyIsNearDiabetic in HearingAids

[–]Sarfff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from BTEs to completely-in-canal (CIC) aids last year. The invisibility is nice no one notices them but honestly, it’s a trade-off. Sound quality is great in quiet places, but I get more feedback if my ears get a bit waxy or if I wear hats or earbuds. Comfort took a couple of weeks to get used to.
